Red Ribbon Week has informed millions of kids and parents about the danger of drugs and alcohol, influencing positive choices and behaviors. However, one “drug” that may not receive as much attention lately is nicotine. which is highly addictive.
Viking Corner: This Week at South Tahoe High

This week was quiet as students prepared for the Black Light Dance, prom, AP testing, and the baseball team played at Reno Ace’s stadium.
On Campus
The Black Light Dance will be held on April 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Student Union. Students dress up and paint themselves to match the theme. A surprise student DJ will be featured, so bring your glow sticks, Vikings.
City of South Lake Tahoe looks at temporary ban of marijuana sales
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/29/2017 - 11:55pmThere is no need to rush into an ordinance regulating the sale of marijuana in South Lake Tahoe. That was the overwhelming opinion of the SLT City Council Tuesday night after a special, four-hour long Cannabis Workshop.
"We owe it to our community to make sure we take every measure to protect them," said SLT Mayor Austin Sass.
Two Grow Domes going in at Sierra House Elementary; $117,000 raised so far
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/11/2014 - 10:43pmThe Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) approved two grow domes to be installed at Sierra House Elementary School. Ground is being broken on the project area this weekend and the project is expected to be completed by the end of November.
FitKid Summer Sports Camp Held in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/07/2014 - 1:06pmThere is one more chance this summer for kids to attend South Lake Tahoe's FitKid Summer Sports Camp put on by Lake Tahoe Community College and Tahoe Center for Orthopedics.
The final camp will be held July 28 through August 1.
Campers, ages 7 to 13, enjoy a week-long summer sports camps that focuses on improving health, wellness, and athletic performance. Campers learn: proper exercise techniques, team-building, sports-specific techniques, and how to make healthy nutritional choices.
The cost is $185 (includes snacks, camp t-shirt, and water bottle.

Gardens 4 A Healthy Tahoe Awarded Champions For Healthy Kids Grant

This group was recently founded by the Human Health and Social Wellbeing working group of the Lake Tahoe Sustainability Collaborative. In partnership, these two groups applied for the Champions for Healthy Kids Grant through the General Mills Foundation.

Heavenly, Kirkwood resorts work on Lakeview Commons for Echo Day
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 09/11/2012 - 3:40pmHeavenly and Kirkwood resorts, through the Vail Resorts Echo program, partnered with the City of South Lake Tahoe for the third annual Vail Resorts Echo Day on Saturday, Sept. 8. Through the project, 179 resort employees, friends and family put the final touches on Lakeview Commons at El Dorado Beach, including planting trees and shrubs, laying sod, installing park benches, picking up trash, and re-distributing sand to even out the beach.
