Heavenly, Kirkwood resorts work on Lakeview Commons for Echo Day

Heavenly and Kirkwood resorts, through the Vail Resorts Echo program, partnered with the City of South Lake Tahoe for the third annual Vail Resorts Echo Day on Saturday, Sept. 8. Through the project, 179 resort employees, friends and family put the final touches on Lakeview Commons at El Dorado Beach, including planting trees and shrubs, laying sod, installing park benches, picking up trash, and re-distributing sand to even out the beach. Volunteers also conducted a neighborhood cleanup around the area.

“Without the volunteer and financial support provided by Heavenly Mountain and Kirkwood Mountain Resorts, this part of the project would remain as just a plan waiting for a funding source,” said Greg Ross with the City of South Lake Tahoe. “We have been looking forward to the completion of this project to enhance our community.”

Launched in August 2010, VR Echo Day is an annual, company-wide volunteer day for Vail Resorts employees and their families. Focused on projects that are meaningful in the local resort communities where the company operates, VR Echo Day hosted seven events for employees and their family and friends this past weekend. This year’s VR Echo Days were on Tahoe’s North and South Shores, in Colorado’s Summit and Eagle Counties, along with Colorado’s Front Range, where the corporation’s headquarters is located. Smaller projects also took place in Jackson, WY and other VR Caribbean properties.

“The number of employees and their family and friends that participated in Echo Day this year on behalf of Heavenly and Kirkwood is a true to testament to their individual commitments to the South Shore and bettering the communities that we all live and work in,” said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly general manager. “Lakeview Commons is a terrific music venue and an ideal area for families to gather, barbeque, and enjoy the beach and beauty of Lake Tahoe. I’m proud of our staff for donating a day of their weekend to help give back.”
