It began in 2003 with a mission to identify and develop current and future leaders through a comprehensive program designed to increase knowledge and awareness of the issues and challenges facing our community. At the beginning, the program was sponsored by the Tahoe Douglas Chamber and South Lake Tahoe Chamber, they merged a few years later and became the Tahoe Chamber (or Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce).
Women injured in hit-and-run Lime scooter verses vehicle collision

At approximately 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, first responders arrived in the 3300 block of Pine Hill Road near Keller Road and found the victim laying in the roadway, suffering from severe injuries.

Embarc Tahoe has opened its doors and held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday with Mayor Jason Collin, Mayor Pro Tem Tamara Wallace, members of the Embarc Tahoe team and the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.
Owner Christy Wilson moved into what was once Tahoe Teriyaki and has since been several different businesses.

South Lake Tahoe businesses awarded over $65,000 in COVID-19 grants
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/23/2020 - 9:06amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Eighty-seven small businesses have taken advantage of a special fund created to help them through COVID-19 related challenges.
The City of South Lake Tahoe put $50,000 into the fund and that was combined with other donations managed by the El Dorado Community Foundation. Other partners include the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce, and many generous local donors.
Businesses in South Lake Tahoe were awarded $65,579.22.

South Lake Tahoe ski instructor and coach indicted on child pornography charges
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/18/2020 - 4:06pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe man arrested in April on child pornography charges was indicted today by a federal grand jury.
Timothy Daniel Mackey, 39, was arrested at his home after a search warrant served on April 15, 2020. Since that time he has been in jail. If convicted, Mackey faces 5-20 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

The Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe is reopening over the Memorial Day Weekend and having a four-day celebration after being closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The original order was set to expire May 1. To keep in alignment with current federal, state, and local guidance for social distancing, and to ensure the health and safety of its employees, visitors, and volunteers, it was extended.
Trailheads and trails outside of the orange areas of the attached maps, or the ones on the closure website, are not affected by this order but parking lots are closed.
El Dorado County Supervisors send letter to Newsom asking for phased reopening

Residents have responded to the closures by abiding by stay-in-place orders enacted to stop the spread of COVID-19.
South Lake Tahoe coach facing federal child pornography charges

Timothy Daniel Mackey was arrested without incident by the FBI and U.S. Marshals at his home during the search.

Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?
Move it online, of course.
USFS closures at spots around Lake Tahoe, not just SR89 corridor

They said the closures were to keep in alignment with current federal, state and local guidance for social distancing and to ensure the health and safety of its employees, visitors, and volunteers.
Events Center approved by Douglas County Commissioners

In a 3-2 vote, the commissioners approved bond issuance, the final step in the approval process. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) had previously unanimously approved it.
Heavenly staff drop off another truck load of food to South Lake Tahoe nonprofits
Submitted by paula on Mon, 04/13/2020 - 4:05pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Heavenly Mountain Resort staff delivered ten pallets full of food and beverage items to Bread & Broth on Friday and pallets of soup Monday, with pallets of granola bars and soup going to the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe.
Since closing, Vail Resorts in the area, Kirkwood and Heavenly, have delivered food to South Lake Tahoe non-profits, at least 25,000 pounds worth (or 12.5 tons). Previous trips to Bread & Broth included fresh fruits and vegetables.
They are also supplying staff to help with the Bread & Broth 4 Kids program, when possible.

When times are tough, South Lake Tahoe volunteers and businesses step up

Base Camp Pizza has been one of those businesses that have helped out the community. On Friday they dropped off 120 pizzas, 75 salads and 100 pasta dishes to Bijou Community School for families there who were picking up kids' homework and other supplies to use for at-home study. Local girl scouts donated boxes of cookies to hand out.

"The health and safety of our guests and employees is our primary concern. During this time of uncertainty, we will do our part to help stop the spread of this virus," the resort spokesperson Sarah Sherman said in a statement.
Vail Resorts announces closures now for season with chance of Heavenly opening for Spring skiing

These closures are amidst the continued challenges associated with the spread of virus across the globe.
Dependent on the COVID-19 situation and weather conditions, Heavenly may reopen in late April/early May. The company may also consider reopening Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado and Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia.

Over the years, the number of meals served weekly has changed, but currently, Bread & Broth (B&B) serves two meals, Monday Meal and Second Serving on Fridays, every week of the year. As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, B&B relies on the generosity of time and monetary support from our local community to provide the wonderful and nutritious meals that are enjoyed by our dinner guests.
Vail Resorts shutting down all North American operations, including those in Lake Tahoe

Vail Resorts announced Saturday that they are suspending the operations of all of their North American mountain resorts, retail stores and corporate offices beginning tomorrow, March 15, 2020, for at least one week (through March 22) to assess the rest of the season.
This includes Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Resort and Northstar in the Lake Tahoe area.
Robbery at Wells Fargo in South Lake Tahoe

SLTPD responded to the call of a robbery at 11:02 a.m. on March 14. An unknown male had entered the store wearing a mask and headed to the bank on the east side. He demanded money from the teller and left with an undisclosed amount of cash and exited the store, heading toward Heavenly Village.

Originally planned for March 21, 2020, organizers with the Barton Foundation canceled the event to "protect community members, employees and care providers in the spread of novel coronavirus COVID-19."

Sales tax revenues increase in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County
Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/26/2020 - 3:15pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Quarterly reports on the sales tax received by the City of South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County (EDC) were released this week. The quarter ending September 2019 shows the County's taxable sales in the unincorporated area grew by 4.3 percent when compared to the same period in 2018. In South Lake Tahoe, taxable sales grew by 6.0 percent. County-wide including both cities within its boundaries saw a 5.1 percent increase. In comparison, the Sacramento region was up 4.5 percent.

Sitting here at the end of February with snowpack numbers dwindling, snow lovers are chomping at the bit, waiting to see the storm track shift back our way.
Still, the mountains have been buzzing with activity as skiers and snowboarders race to the mountains to enjoy what natural snow we’ve received and are ever thankful for the assist from local resorts’ snowmaking operations.

The following are calls that only pertain to the South and West Shore, including Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, Meeks Bay, Tahoma, and the Echo Summit area. Barton Foundation gives over $360,000 to community health improvements

Medical equipment, new technology, care provider education, and support, expanding access to mental and behavioral health services, and funding for local organizations were all aspects of the Barton Foundation’s scope of giving last year, as part of its commitment to community well-being through Barton Health.
Ski and ride fundraiser "Purim in the Powder" sponsored by Temple Bat Yam

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The public is invited to ski or ride the slopes at Heavenly Mountain Resort and help raise funds for Temple Bat Yam during "Purim in the Powder" on Sunday, March 15. Don't ski or ride? That's okay, help sponsor a participant or join in on the BBQ and raffle fun following the runs at Temple Bat Yam.
All skiers are riders taking part in the event are asked to raise at least $90 in pledges but don't let that hold you back on raising more!
Raffle tickets are $10 each and they can be purchased online or at the event:

Illegal tow practices being investigated by South Lake Tahoe police
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/11/2020 - 8:29pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) and the El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson are investigating possible illegal and improper predatory towing practices.
SLTPD has received several informal complaints from the public about the possible illegal tow practices that involve cars removed from private parking areas near the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe.
The complains involve a tow company improperly holding stored vehicles longer than necessary, thus adding extra storage fees to the vehicle's owner.

March 6, 2020 (All day) SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif, - The Cystic Fibrosis Lifestyle Foundation (CFLF) is hosting its inaugural STROLO Tahoe CF Winterfest event on the slopes at Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe March 6-8, 2020.
CFLF help people with cystic fibrosis live STROnger and LOnger (STROLO).
