Highway 50 remains closed at Ice House, I80 eastbound, SR88 open
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/11/2017 - 8:09amCaltrans is still working on clearing the mud slide at Ice House Road which has kept Highway 50 closed since Friday afternoon.
As of 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning, Highway 50 is closed but SR88 is open with chain controls, I80 is open to eastbound traffic and some detours off the highway are available for westbound travelers.
No estimated time of opening but Caltrans is providing updates at noon Saturday.
Expect delays on I-80 as Caltrans begins grooving project
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/05/2016 - 9:10pmIf you're driving north of Lake Tahoe this month, expect delays as the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) begins to groove pavement on Interstate 80 Monday, November 7. Crews will be working from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until November 23.
Additional work days may be required after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. (No work is scheduled on Veterans’ Day November 11.)
New project in Truckee to bring new Marriott hotel and apartments
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/22/2016 - 7:09amA new project is being planned for the Town of Truckee that will include a 127 room hotel and five three-story apartment buildings with 138 rental units.
The hotel portion will be named Marriott SpringHill Suites and the apartments, Coburn Crossing.
The Triumph Development Hotel and Residential Project, will be laid out on over 11 acres adjacent to the Truckee Cemetery and Highway 80 on East Jiboom Street.

Heavy snow for the Sierras today
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/24/2015 - 9:23amIt's going to be a white Christmas in Lake Tahoe, with heavy snow expected throughout the day Thursday, leaving an expected extra foot of snow at lake level by Friday morning.
If you are traveling you can expect road controls from chains or snow tire requirements to chains or 4WD with snow tires.
King Fire, Dog Fire and Applegate Fire updates
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/09/2014 - 9:18pmHighway 80 has been reopened to four lanes this evening as firefighters continue to fight the Applegate Fire which had caused three lanes to be closed since Wednesday.
It is still unknown how the fire started but it has been listed as suspicious in nature. The fire has burned 420 acres as of Thursday evening and is now 25% contained. Firefighters worked in steep and rugged terrain to get the containment line in place. There are 1,419 personnel on the scene with air tanker support from the U.S. Forest Service.

Winter Storm Hits Lake Tahoe - Over a Foot of New Snow

South Lake Tahoe reports this morning are coming in at 12" to 15" near lake level and the snow is still coming down.
