A BLIZZARD WARNING IS IN EFFECT TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING FOLLOWED BY A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR WEDNESDAY THRU THURSDAY MORNING… WHITE OUT CONDITIONS WITH STRONG GUSTY WINDS WILL HAMPER THE OPERATION OF UPPER MOUNTAIN LIFTS, SO ALL LIFTS WILL OPERATE WIND & WEATHER PERMITTING.
Power restored to 2700 customers of Liberty Utilities in South Lake Tahoe

10:00 p.m. - 20 customers are without power near Turnback Lane and Golden Bear due to a tree falling on a power line.

9:15 p.m. - The power has been restored to all South Lake Tahoe customers affected from Al Tahoe to Heavenly. Those who were affected on the west shore and north shore have not yet been restored.
* * *
Liberty Utilities is reporting a circuit tripped in the substation at Stateline, putting 2,700 customers in South Lake Tahoe into the dark.
The customers stretch from Heavenly Mountain Resort to Al Tahoe and some stop lights in the area are also out.

Structure fire causes major damage to lodge structure at Lake Tahoe's Homewood Mountain Resort

5:00 p.m. update 12/28/16: Homewood Resort at Lake Tahoe will be opening their lifts on Thursday, just one day after a fire destroyed their South Lodge.
"We are expecting to have 'top-to-bottom' skiing and boarding available to our guests," says a message on the Homewood website. "Our team would like to thank the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, Placer County Sheriffs, our community partners and most importantly our amazing employees that are working to get our operations up and running for tomorrow."

Kudos: Virtual race helps fund cancer wellness program

On behalf of the organizers of the Lake Tahoe Virtual Race, I would like to thank Lake Tahoe community members and businesses as well as Barton Health employees and physicians for their incredible generosity.
Barton Health recently hosted the first Virtual Race Challenge. Racers walked and ran for 72 days and recorded their mileage on a 72 mile digital map of Lake Tahoe. Together, with their financial contributors, the racers raised $4,044 in donations to help expand Barton Health’s Cancer Wellness Program.

Ski resorts at Lake Tahoe prepare for opening day

1:30 pm update 11/15/26 - Many of the Lake Tahoe area ski resorts updated their opening dates today. Heavenly and Northstar will now open on Wednesday, November 23, Kirkwood and Sierra-at-Tahoe dates have yet to be determined.

The lower elevations around Lake Tahoe have seen some snow over the past month, but nothing that stayed longer than a few hours, but the scene up on the slopes is much different.
"Plates for Powder" is back: Buy a Tahoe license plate and ski for free

The popular “Plates for Powder” program and offers skiers and boarders two free lift tickets at one of ten resorts in Lake Tahoe if they purchase the new Lake Tahoe license plate in either California or Nevada.
“The mountains are covered in white from this weekend’s storm signaling that ski season is almost here,” said Amy Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund. “Get ready to ski at one of the 10 resorts in Tahoe who generously support this great program by purchasing your new California or Nevada Tahoe plate today.”

Injured pelican helped by CHP near Truckee

Its not every day one sees a pelican in the back seat of a California Highway Patrol vehicle.
On Tuesday night, the CHP office in Truckee received reports of an injured pelican on I-80 westbound, west of Overland Trail. Upon arrival, CHP officers saw the troubled bird attempt to fly away, but instead landed directly next to the travel lanes of the freeway.
