SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Sierra-at-Tahoe will be honoring local winter sports athletes with a celebration at their home mountain on Saturday, April 7. Jamie Anderson, Maddie Bowman, Hannah Teter and Kyle Smaine had undeniable success in the competitive year including bringing home Olympic Gold and Silver medals, World Championship titles and X Games Gold. The celebration will take place on the Solstice Plaza at Sierra’s base area and will include autograph signing, speeches by local dignitaries and a silent auction with proceeds going to Protect Our Winters and Jamie Anderson Foundation.

That, coupled with the current blizzard, executives thought another date would give the community a much better chance of celebrating their champions.

Special City Council meeting to decide Kerry's fate; Meston outlines plans

The council will be meeting in closed session on Monday, February 12, 2018 to discuss the situation. Their agenda item, "PUBLIC EMPLOYEE DISCIPLINE/DISMISSAL/RELEASE Pursuant to Government Code Section 54957(b)" starts at 9:00 a.m.
That section of code allows special and closed session meetings to consider the appointment, employment, evaluation of performance, discipline, or dismissal of a public employee.

The 26-year-old Sierra-at-Tahoe skier has a chance.
The U.S. freeski team added four more athletes to its halfpipe roster for PyeongChang on Friday night.
Alex Ferreira and Torin Yater-Wallace are joining David Wise on the men's team, while Brita Sigourney and Devin Logan are joining South Lake Tahoe's Maddie Bowman on the women's team.
Champions Plaza “Spirit of Competition” unveiled
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/27/2017 - 7:15pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The long awaited 11 foot tall bronze sculpture "Spirit of Competition" perched on top of a 4.5 ton boulder was unveiled during a ceremony at Champions Plaza Friday.
Sculptor Gareth Curtiss transported his creation from his studio in Fortine, Montana just two days ago in the back of his van, early Thursday morning the bronze sculpture was picked up with a crane and placed on top of the boulder, bolted in and wrapped up for the ceremony.

Originally scheduled for September 29, the date have been moved out a few weeks to an unknown date.
Fires around his Montana studio put sculptor Gareth Curtiss behind schedule on the 11 foot creation which represents male and female athletes reaching for the ultimate prize, a golden ring.

The 2017 inductees include; Elena Hight, Glen Plake, Hannah Teter, Jamie Anderson, Jonna Mendes, Kyle Smaine, Maddie Bowman, Shaun Palmer, Travis Cabral and Travis Ramos. They have all been invited to the event.
Maddie Bowman wins gold; Jamie Anderson silver in XGames
Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/29/2016 - 11:30pmAll three runs for South Lake Tahoe's Maddie Bowman in the Women's Ski SuperPipe X Games today beat all competitors on the course, earning her a fourth straight gold medal in the event. The 22-year-old Olympic gold medalist has also won a silver and bronze in the X Games.
Bowman scored a 85.33 on her first run Friday, followed by a 87.33 and 89.00. Second place finisher Ayana Onozuka of Japan ended up with a high run of 85.00. Bronze medalist Annalisa Drew of the USA had an 83.00.
South Lake Tahoe's Kyle Smaine wins first World Championship

The 23-year old won the 2015 FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships with a Left-side 1260 tail; Right-side 1080 tail; Switch 720 opposite safety; Right-side 900 high mute; Right-side 900 truck driver.
He skies for Sierra at Tahoe, just as do Olympians Maddie Bowman, Jamie Anderson and Hannah Teter.
South Lake Tahoe skier Kyle Smaine a leader on Revolution Tour
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/19/2015 - 7:20pmSouth Lake Tahoe Olympian Maddie Bowman used the U.S. Revolution Tour as a stepping stone to the Olympics, and fellow SLT freeskier Kyle Smaine is making his move on the same tour.
An early season leader, Smaine is now headed to the tour's next stop January 26 to 30 at Pennsylvania's Seven Springs Mountain Resort.
