Heartbreaking end after police pull drowning dog out of Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/27/2020 - 10:00amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On just after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to a call of a dog that was hit by a vehicle near the 3400 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard.
Lobo, a large Siberian Husky, was accidentally let out of a hotel complex while the family was away. Witnesses tried to render aid at the scene but Lobo panicked, bit them and ran off.

Pedestrian killed in South Lake Tahoe hit-and-run collision
Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/06/2019 - 9:45pm10/7 update: A 20-year-old college student went to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at 12:30 a.m. this morning, telling them he believed he was involved in the fatal hit-and-run. Marlon Cruz, a member of the Lake Tahoe Community College men's soccer team, was arrested after an investigation by SLTPD and interview with Cruz. The vehicle used in the hit-and-run has been located. Mickey and Doug had been married for 48 years. He is also survived by daughter Shannon Crowe, daughter Kendra Miesner, and granddaughters Brianna and Adrienne. He was an avid dog lover and Cleo and Jake will miss him very much.

Vail Resorts has acquired four new mountain resorts: Okemo Mountain Resort in Vermont, Mount Sunapee in New Hampshire, Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado, and Stevens Pass in Washington State.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Temple Bat Yam is having their inaugural Vodka and Latkes fundraiser on Wednesday, December 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Lakeland Village Clubhouse.
Holiday tradition is being brought to the South Lake Tahoe community as the Temple pairs both traditional and creative latkes with Tahoe Blue Vodka cocktails. There will also be other appetizers and, of course, traditional jelly donuts. A raffle and games will also be featured to make this a "must-do" on your holiday list of activities.

Zalanta in South Lake Tahoe celebrates grand opening
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/13/2017 - 9:30pmThe Zalanta Resort at the Village celebrated the completion of their first phase Tuesday with a grand opening and ribbon cutting for local dignitaries.
On what was formerly known as "the hole," Zalanta is the first whole ownership luxury condominium residences in the Lake Tahoe Basin since Lakeland Village was completed 30 years ago.
The 30 residences are all one-story and available in 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom units. The cheapest unit, priced at $950,000, and the most expensive at $2.125M have both sold as well as several other residences. The second phase will add another 60 residences.
Letter: Boys & Girls Club and SLT Lodging Association back Measure P
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/26/2016 - 10:28amMeasure P will be a key initiative on the City of South Lake Tahoe’s Nov. 8 ballot as a tourist-only tax to help rebuild the area’s aging Recreation Center.
Without raising taxes on local residents and businesses, Measure P will bring an estimated extra $2 million a year to support the community. The Lodging Association has voted unanimously to support further recreation in South Lake Tahoe. If passed by a two-thirds vote, Measure P will increase transient occupancy tax by 2 percent to 12 percent.
Police arrest person of interest for sexual assault in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/08/2016 - 4:04pmA South Lake Tahoe man is behind bars after being identified as a possible suspect in at least one of the recent assault crimes in the community.
Oscar Raygoza Huerta, 23 of South Lake Tahoe, was arrested on Friday, August 5 on charges of assault intent to commit mayhem or rape, a felony. He is currently in the El Dorado County jail on a $100,000 bail hold.
Last week, South Lake Tahoe Police detectives released sketches of the suspect created after interviews with two of the victims. Leads from those photos led to the arrest.
Man sought for assaulting women in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/28/2016 - 6:45pmOn July 25, a woman visiting South Lake Tahoe reported a robbery and attempted sexual assault in a laundry room at Lakeland Village on Lake Tahoe Blvd.
Over the past year, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department has received at least three such reports and believe they may be related due to similarities in the subject's description and method of operation.
SLTPD wants to caution the public and is asking for help in identifying the suspect(s) in these cases.
"Silent" movies and concert on the beach for Keep Tahoe Blue fundraiser

The beach at Lakeland Village will be the scene of the next FNCTN fundraiser to benefit Keep Tahoe Blue on Wednesday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m., and people nearby won't hear a thing!
There will be two movie screenings and a concert on the beach, all through special silent disco headphones. Guests receive a pair of Bluetooth headphones for the evening that have three separate channels. Each channel will be broadcasting movies and music at the same time, you choose your entertainment.

After a few weeks of practicing with their trained professional partner, the celebrities put on an entertaining show that brought out the cheers and applause, and lots of money for the non-profit.

For the past few weeks, "celebrities" from South Lake Tahoe have been practicing with their professional partners, all in a quest to win the coveted mirror ball trophy in the Tahoe Arts Project's 4th annual Dancing with the Tahoe Stars
All of the rehearsing, and nursing aches and pains, have come down to this, the final event which will be held at MontBleu Resort on Saturday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m.
South Tahoe Now caught up with a few of the couples in their secret rehearsals as they polished up their dance moves in preparation for the big night.

Professional dancers will be working with the "celebrities" to teach them each a dance they'll bring to the MontBleu stage on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

Dr. Kelly Shanahan will be teamed up with Rainer Herm to dance Disco.
Iris Kahm is teamed up with Jorge Favio Orozco to dance Salsa.

More details of Saturday's arrest have been released by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
As the pursuit of a car driven by 35-year-old Cory Pearson of Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe ended at the Tahoe Keys Marina, officers were able to establish a perimeter around his vehicle which had been reported stolen in Lakeland Village. Pearson yelled to officers that he was armed with a gun and threatened to use it if anyone approached. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) SWAT Team and Crisis Response Team were called to assist.

Most of the audience was from the real estate and home rental management companies, both of whom felt there would be a lot of loss should a stricter policy be enforced.

The Pac 8 Championship Game is set: The Oregon Ducks against the Utah Utes will meet up at noon on Sunday, February 8 at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena.
Oregon beat USC on Saturday, 4 to 1 and Utah beat Washington 9-2 during Saturday's semi-final round to set up the final game of the tournament.
Tickets are available on line for $10.
The players and coaches have been using Lakeland Village and Tep's Villa Roma as their base of operations during their stay in South Lake Tahoe this week.

Gas leak plugged, evacuation lifted in South Lake Tahoe
