SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The following is a list of the long term and short term projects the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled for the week around Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra and El Dorado County.

Lake Tahoe, Sierra and El Dorado County roadwork September 6 - 12

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The following is a list of the long term and short term projects the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled for the week around Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra and El Dorado County.

Most traffic-interfering work will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 due to the Labor Day holiday.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responds to calls throughout the county. The following are calls that only pertain to the South and West Shore, including Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, Meeks Bay, Tahoma, and the Echo Summit area. Ray Kope ~ 12/19/43 - 1/13/19

Raymond Donald Kope passed away on January 13, 2019, at his winter home in Cathedral City, California, with his wife, Cat, by his side.

Ray was born to Michael Kope and Edith Roskos Kope on December 19, 1943, in Lakewood, Ohio. When he was a young boy, his family left their home in Ohio and headed west to the San Jose, California, area where Ray attended grammar and high schools.

Lake Tahoe area roadwork for September 3-9

The following is the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) roadwork schedule for the Lake Tahoe area.

NOTE: Most traffic-interfering work will be limited through midnight Monday, September 4 due to the Labor Day holiday.

EMERGENCY PROJECT

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): The highway is reduced to one lane in each direction at Bridal Veil Falls for slope and roadway repair work. Completion is expected by the end of the year.

Man killed in North Lake Tahoe officer-involved shooting identified

The victim in an officer-involved shooting in North Lake Tahoe has been identified as 27-year-old Jose Gonzales Lera from Lakewood, Colorado.

Lera took a female hostage at gunpoint and was eventually shot and killed by Placer County Sheriff's deputies early Friday morning.

What Denver DA wants Californians to know about legalizing marijuana

As voters in California prepare to vote either for or against Proposition 64, the legalization of marijuana, the District Attorney of Denver has written a letter warning against "yes" votes, and shares what they learned as a state since legalizing the recreational use of the drug.

Mitchell R. Morrissey said the promises made in the proposition are "lies."

Firefighters have put a line around 89% of the King Fire

9/28/14 10:00 p.m. update: 4,420 firefighters and support staff are still on the scene of the 97.099 acre King Fire which is now 89% contained.

After 4 days of precipitation with accumulations of 1-3 inches, fire spread has been halted, however heat remains in the heavier fuels and in the heavy duff sheltered from the rain under the dense timber canopy. As the weather turns warm and dry over the next several days, expect to see an increase in fire activity and smoke production; however spread potential is extremely low, doe to the successful suppression efforts.
