Tahoe Valley School creates Family Literacy Garden
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/15/2020 - 9:15amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A summer-long project at Tahoe Valley Elementary School is now open to the public and the tree at the center of the love-filled efforts is in memory of student Marianna Zepeda.
The quiet, reflective garden area includes seating, a lending library and a tree dedicated to Marianna, a 4th grade student who passed away June 19.
"She was always happy and sunny," says Principal Christina Grubbs of the young student. "That is why we chose a sunny, yellow tree."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 in our community, the Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation is hosting its annual Taste of Gold fundraiser as a virtual event this year through July 18. Funds raised from this event support the Lake Tahoe College Promise program that provides up to three years of tuition-free college for eligible students of all ages, a free textbook lending library, and the Lake Tahoe Community College Food Pantry, which provides crucial nutrition and personal hygiene products to LTCC’s neediest students.

Lake Tahoe College Promise, the free tuition program at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC), is expanding from one year to three years starting Fall 2019.
LTCC receives grant to expand College Promise program

They were just one of three community colleges in the state to receive the grant.
Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) Promise program provides a free year of tuition for first-time, full-time students. With this grant award, LTCC can further enhance the program, adding free services and extra support to improve Promise student success.
LTUSD and LTCC to hold joint board meeting Tuesday

Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/21/2018 - 5:56pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Continuing their mission to treat the Lake Tahoe area as one community, and thanks to some key donations, Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is now offering the Lake Tahoe College Promise tuition program around the lake on both sides of the state line.
All first-time college students, including those who earned college units while still in high school, can get their tuition waived. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in and complete 12 or more units each quarter for three academic quarters, and meet one of the following requirements:

ECE students and child care providers toured and observed classrooms at the Lake Tahoe Child Development Center on Spruce Avenue in South Lake Tahoe and learned about Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS). They enjoyed pizzas donated by Primo’s Italian Bistro and decadent cupcakes donated by Cake by Grace.
Choices for Children would like to express a special thank you to Jim and Grace for their generous donation. It was very much appreciated and made the evening lovely.

As there is a decline in community college enrollment across the country, LTCC is being creative in recruitment of students to the campus and investing in not only the environment, but in removing barriers many have in getting a secondary education.
That was the message during Lake Tahoe Community College President Jeff DeFranco's first State of the College Address on Thursday.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/13/2017 - 9:40amChoices for Children hosted its 25th annual Child Care Professionals Appreciation Breakfast featuring Early Childhood Education professors Lisa Daly and Miriam Beloglovsky on Saturday, April 1 at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. Fifty four child care providers came together to enjoy breakfast, raffles generously donated by the South Lake Tahoe Community, and an inspiring presentation on Using Loose Parts (alluring objects that children can move, manipulate, control, and change within their play) to Support Language and Literacy Development.
Family creates "Little Library" for the Lake Tahoe Community
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/28/2016 - 8:24pmThe South Lake Tahoe community is invited to attend the grand opening of a new, free "Little Library" on Saturday, December 3 at noon outside BioSpirit, located at 1116 Ski Run Blvd.
The Haven family, Kathy and Nick, along with their children Alexi (12), Christopher (11) and Marcus (8) created the free lending library, the first of what they hope will be many around the community.
"We are making a little library so that whoever wants a book can have a book," said Alexi. "Also, people who have extra books, they can donate them to the library. That way everyone has books!"
