South Lake Tahoe renter-homeowner matching website launched
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/13/2020 - 2:03pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Home Connection (TaHoCo) is a community-based organization working to generate new rentals in South Lake Tahoe by working with second home owners. They have launched a new website to help local workers easily find housing on the South Shore.
It is estimated that 58 percent of homes in South Lake Tahoe are owned by second homeowners and 78 percent of these sit vacant for much of the year. Many of the second homeowners rent out their homes on both long-term and short-term basis, or leave for their own personal use.
Illegal tow practices being investigated by South Lake Tahoe police
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/11/2020 - 9:29pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) and the El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson are investigating possible illegal and improper predatory towing practices.
SLTPD has received several informal complaints from the public about the possible illegal tow practices that involve cars removed from private parking areas near the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe.
The complains involve a tow company improperly holding stored vehicles longer than necessary, thus adding extra storage fees to the vehicle's owner.
El Dorado County Employment Resource Center reopens in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/04/2019 - 8:57pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After closing in May 2019 for much-needed repairs, the El Dorado County Employment Resource Center n South Lake Tahoe has reopened to the public.
Repairs completed include carpet replacement, minor mold remediation and painting.
The Employment Resource Center provides free job assistance services to El Dorado County residents who are looking for jobs or want to improve their job readiness skills. There is no income requirement to use the Center.

Our market (Lake Tahoe) will see a small negative impact from interest rates as they affect affordability but the last item, equity growth, will impact our market the greatest. South Tahoe Now has been warning people for years about renting both short-term and long-term homes through Craigslist, the online classified ad forum.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is warning potential vacation home renters that scams continue on Craigslist.
185,000 guests used Airbnb this winter in Sierra; Hosts earned $32 million

More than 185,000 visitors booked rooms or homes from Airbnb hosts during the 2016-17 winter, up 48 percent from last winter. Also on the rise were earnings by hosts, revealing the surge of short-term rentals that have put neighbors against neighbors, and had community leaders grappling with their impact on neighborhoods.

Number of homes for sale rising in South Lake Tahoe

The number of people deciding to sell their Tahoe homes rose slightly in July, with an increase of 4.6% in new listings, while the total number of homes on the market has risen 8.9% in the past 12 months. Also on the rise is the median sales price. In July, the median price for closed sales was $346,000. In July of 2014, it was $339,000.
Pending sales were also on the rise while closed sales stayed even from last year, though up from May and June.
So, what does this mean?
Possible five new additions to U.S. Fish & Wildlife's endangered species list
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/10/2015 - 8:09pmThe U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering the addition of eight new species to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) list, five of which concern California and Nevada.
They have found that there is substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that ESA protections may be warranted for the Mojave shoulderband snail, Clear Lake hitch, Relict dace, San Joaquin flower-loving fly, and Western pond turtle.
The public now has 60 days to read the findings and make comments if necessary.

Lake Tahoe’s top rookie was Mary Kleingartner with $4.2 million in volume sold. Brent Johnson was named top sales agent, with 42.75 units sold. Elder also claimed top listing agent in units, volume, and units and volume sold, as well as top sales agent. She helped broker more than $65 million in sales.

That scenario happened over the recent holiday when not one, not two, but four different groups thought they rented a home on Bonita Road near Heavenly Mountain Resort. All of the groups found a home for rent on Craigslist, a popular website used for buying, selling and renting.
