LTCC planned drill prompts elementary school to go on lock down
Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/28/2018 - 7:28pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - A planned emergency drill at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) Wednesday prompted an emergency lock down at Tahoe Valley Elementary School.
At 2:00 p.m. on February 28, a planned automated alert was sent out by LTCC. On campus there was an announcement sent out over loud speakers, telling students there was a lockdown drill. Part of the on campus drill is to send out a robocall.

With the deadly shooting February 14, 2018 at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, many communities are looking at their own schools and their safety procedures to help prevent a repeat of a tragic event.
What is commonplace at schools across the country are drills for "shelter in place" and for students to understand what to do, and not do, in case of an emergency.
Lock down at South Tahoe High lifted, suspect still on loose

South Tahoe High is on lock down this morning after a high speed chase of a motorcyclist through city limits.
The chase entered near Cardinale Way and it became a foot pursuit near the high school.

9:50 a.m. - Officers ftom South Lake Tahoe Police, El Dorado County Sheriff and California Highway Patrol all still searching for the man. STHS remains on lock down.
Bear and three cubs visit South Tahoe High
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/22/2015 - 5:23pmA mother bear and her three cubs visited the campus of South Tahoe High on Monday, causing some excitement. Students said they saw the momma bear sit down while her cubs were playing around.
Nobody was ever in danger and the bears left several minutes after arriving.
The school contacted El Dorado County Animal Control for guidance in handling the situation. The School Resource Officer Andy Eissinger was on campus so they told Animal Control they didn't need to respond as there was no danger.
Standoff at the Tahoe Keys Marina ends with arrest of suspect

More details of Saturday's arrest have been released by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
As the pursuit of a car driven by 35-year-old Cory Pearson of Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe ended at the Tahoe Keys Marina, officers were able to establish a perimeter around his vehicle which had been reported stolen in Lakeland Village. Pearson yelled to officers that he was armed with a gun and threatened to use it if anyone approached. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) SWAT Team and Crisis Response Team were called to assist.
South Tahoe High on lock down after 911 call about suicidal man with knife
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/20/2015 - 1:54pmA mentally disturbed man holding a knife to his own throat in an apartment near South Tahoe High Wednesday morning resulted in a temporary lockdown on the campus.
Just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning a 911 call came in and the School Resource Officer cautioned the high school to conduct a lockdown until police officers could arrive and assess the situation.
Suspicious Package Found at South Y Center, South Tahoe High on Lock Down
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/29/2014 - 11:45amUpdate at 12:55 pm: At noon Thursday, a K-Mart employee overheard two youth in the store talking about planting a device. Once they departed, the employee searched for something out of the ordinary. He walked past the vendor mailboxes in between K-Mart and Raley's and thought he heard a ticking sound and called the SLT Police.
Aaron Crawford, the South Tahoe High on site officer responded first. He has extensive experience with bombs, and based on what he could hear at the mailboxes he felt the situation warranted more investigation.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/21/2013 - 4:09pmIt was just 3 minutes from the time a gun was shot today in Sparks, Nevada until the first police officer arrived at Sparks Middle School. In that 3 minutes, one math teacher was killed, two students were shot and the young shooter shot and killed himself.
