Tahoe Magic serves the community during times of crisis
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/26/2020 - 2:33pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - What started out as a charity that shared the magic of the holidays with local children has now become a lifeline of support that immediately provides South Lake Tahoe families with financial assistance when they are in crisis.
The 501c3 non-profit was founded in 1994 and has helped low-income families on a year-round basis with one-time crisis funding, but that role is now growing due to the current COVID-19 health and economic crisis. Tahoe Magic recently launched its new website TahoeMagic to show how those in need can be assisted.
Letter: 2020 goal to provide a safe place for South Lake Tahoe youth, teens and families
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/02/2020 - 2:45pm2018 – 2019 was a year of endings and new beginnings. Tahoe Youth & Family Services faced a lot of change. As we all know, change is hard but change can also be exciting. Both our staff and board are embracing the New Year with excitement and renewed energy.
The following are new programs that will be happening:
o Homeless program for youth 18 – 24 years in South Lake Tahoe, SLT
o Expanded SLT Host home program for youth under 18 including those youth who are involved with child welfare services, juvenile probation, and the McKinney Vento program.
Community gives families displaced from South Lake Tahoe apartments some holiday cheer but still in need of permanent housing
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/18/2018 - 12:08pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On December 12 six South Lake Tahoe families learned the apartment building they called home was no longer habitable and they had to vacate by December 17.
As the deadline loomed panic set in for the residents of 3546 Spruce Avenue, they tried to find new housing in a city where available rentals are almost non-existent, especially for those of a lower income level without financial means to pay higher rent and deposits.
Public invited to Open House at South Tahoe High for new teen resource room
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/14/2016 - 12:35pmThe community is invited to an Open House at the new Teen Resource Room at South Tahoe High on Wednesday, November 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in room C-1 at the school which is located at 1735 Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.
Students use the room to get needed clothing including hats and coats, school supplies and food, as well as bicycles. Counseling services are also offered in the room.
Women of the Moose in SLT help local homeless youth
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/08/2016 - 8:51pmA community group effort led by the Women of the Moose (WOTM) Chapter 408 in South Lake Tahoe is helping the homeless youth of the community
WOTM help out with the kids who are part of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District's McKinney Vento program. LTUSD receives an annual allocation of about $1,000 to purchase school supplies and help with bus transportation for its approximately 250 homeless students.
Kiwanis collecting suitcases and backpacks for South Lake Tahoe children

With almost 300 children in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District not having a permanent home, the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra is holding a community event to help them with a big need: luggage and backpacks.
