Kiwanis collecting suitcases and backpacks for South Lake Tahoe children

Event Date:
April 2, 2016 - 10:00am
With almost 300 children in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District not having a permanent home, the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra is holding a community event to help them with a big need: luggage and backpacks.
These two items will be used by South Lake Tahoe children to keep their belongings in at the place they currently call home, whether its a motel, car, the floor of an overcrowded apartment or the couch at a temporary home. At times, a child has to be removed from a home, and they have minutes to collect their belongings, so the collected donations will assist in these cases as well.
The Kiwanians will be at the TJ Maxx parking lot on Saturday, April 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to collect the gently used or new suitcases and backpacks. Look for them under the tents.
Items collected will go to four local agencies: Tahoe Youth and Family Services,
Sierra Child and Family Services, Tahoe Family Resource Center and Child Protective Services.
