Despite the challenges we face with the COVID-19 pandemic, Barton Health continues to provide compassionate care that puts mothers and babies first. Barton’s practices in place honor the needs of mother and child while upholding everyone’s health and safety.
Giving Tuesday pet adoption and fundraising day for Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/24/2020 - 7:25amLAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is having a special puppy adoption day on May 5 to coincide with the annual Giving Tuesday fundraising day.
"Little Rays of Sunshine" is bringing two litters with a total of 11 puppies, along with one of the moms, to the public for adoption.

V&T Railway 2019 season begins with Mother’s Day train

Kicking off its 2019 season, V&T Railway will hold a special Mother’s Day train on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12. Guests will experience a 24-mile round-trip ride through the historic Comstock, departing Carson City (Eastgate Depot) at 10 a.m. and will arrive in Virginia City at approximately 11:30 a.m., before returning to Carson at 4:15 p.m.
Tickets are $45 for adults, $40 for seniors and $25 for children ages 3 to 16. Children two and under ride free when they sit on a parent's lap. Tickets can be purchased online at www.vtrailway.com or (877) 724-5007.

They are for hauling the family with comfortable seven to eight passenger seating (there isn’t a bad seat in this house) while still having massive cargo capacity. Or they are for going to your local Home Depot or Lowe’s and God help your credit card. I was actually able to put 12-foot-long baseboard inside this massive shipping container.

"Nature is medicine, nutrition is medicine and you don't have to pop pills for health," said Nancy Laurenson of Barton Health during a recent wellness outing on the Rainbow Trail at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center.
Letter: Thank you for support of Climb Out of Darkness event
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/30/2017 - 12:21amLocal moms and families came together on July 9 at Nevada Beach for Climb Out of the Darkness, an international event to raise awareness around postpartum depression and other associated perinatal mood disorders.
The event raised over $2,500 to support Postpartum Support International, an organization that provides support to families and education to mental health providers. Generous support was provided by Elevate Wellness Center, Barton Health, and many local businesses. You are not alone, you are not to blame, and with help, you will be well.

Barton Auxiliary awards $76,500 to students and Birthing Center
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/19/2017 - 7:20pmSouth Lake Tahoe, Calif. – Thirteen students were recently awarded $19,000 in scholarships by the Barton Auxiliary which also gave $$57,500 to the Barton Family Birthing Center for additional services and equipment.
The awards came during a recognition lunch on June 12.
Barton Auxiliary is a group of volunteers who support Barton Hospital, its patients, and the community through. In 2016, Auxiliary volunteers raised funds from The Attic and gift shop sales, holiday fundraisers, and personal donations to fund their recent awards.
Sierra House Elementary raising funds for Charlie Cart Project

Special Mother's Day train to Virginia City
Submitted by paula on Tue, 04/18/2017 - 2:03pmThe Virginia & Truckee Railroad will once again offer special train rides over the Mother's Day weekend, May 13-14, that will take moms and families from Carson City to Virginia City aboard a historic train.
All mothers will be honored with a long-stem rose as they board the 1953 ALCO (American Locomotive Company) heritage diesel locomotive for the 16 mile trip to the Comstock-era town of Virginia City.
Carson City and Douglas County on high alert for Whooping Cough
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/28/2017 - 12:06pmThere has been an increase of positive pertussis, which is commonly known as whooping cough, in the Carson City and Douglas County areas of Nevada.
The Disease Control and Prevention Division at Carson City Health & Human Services (CCHHS) oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Carson City and Douglas County and is currently investigating the increase.
At this time, CCHHS is reporting the outbreak as an isolated event; however, the Health Department is encouraging families in the community to take preventive measures.

October 9, 2016 - 10:00am The Lake Tahoe Golf Course will be hosting their annual Wedding Open House on Sunday, October 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Besides local wedding vendors being on hand to share information about their services, there will be a Tahoe Wedding Flea Market.
Future brides and grooms can shop for wedding items that will be available at great prices.
Organizers are renting flea market tables for just $10. People are invited to bring wedding items to sell to the brides, grooms, bridesmaids, and moms who will be attending.
Justin Timberlake makes the most of his inaugural ACC appearance

The large gallery following him during the practice rounds and tournament was full of girls, teens and moms trying to catch a glimpse of the recording artist.
During Sunday's final round, Timberlake was partnered with NFL great Jerry Rice and Alfonso Ribeiro who is best known for winning Dancing With the Stars and for his role on Fresh Prince on Bel-Air.
