Winners announced in Clean Tahoe and Jamie Anderson essay contest
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/03/2020 - 9:32pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Clean Tahoe program recently teamed up with Olympic gold medalist, and South Lake Tahoe native, Jamie Anderson to hold an essay contest for local youth.
Anderson was joined by a local teacher and writer to be the judges and read through all of the 30 entries. They said it was a tough choice but they were able to narrow them down to three winners and five honorable mention awards.

With less than 40 days remaining until the November general election, U.S. House candidate Jessica Morse will be hosting town hall meetings for 4th district residents, including a stop in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, October 7.
California's 4th District stretches from the eastern Sacramento suburbs to the Sierra foothills, including Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park. Morse is running against incumbent Republican Tom McClintock who, at this time, has no scheduled stops in South Lake Tahoe.

California changed their primary system ten years ago for the top offices and now it is the two candidates with the most votes on Tuesday that will head to the November elections, no matter which party they belong to. Prior to this system it would be the top democrat and top republican that would face off.

Opening night for Tahoe Valley production of The Jungle Book
Submitted by paula on Wed, 04/04/2018 - 12:59pmThis isn't your mother's school play. Tahoe Valley Elementary Performing Arts is presenting The Jungle Book to local schools, parents and the community this week, and the production shouldn't be missed.
Under the direction of Jack Suglian, a Tahoe Valley Elementary and South Tahoe High graduate and stage veteran, the 55 students have been in rehearsal since January, not only working on lines but also on 15 musical numbers.
The play is inside the schools "Thunderbird Theater."

Californians saved enough water to serve 6.24M homes for a year
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/08/2017 - 12:06pmWater conservation efforts in California have saved 2.51 million acre-feet of water since June of 2105. This is enough water to provide 6.24 million homes with water for a year, or almost one-third of the state's population.
Since state-mandated water restrictions have been in place, the cumulative statewide savings has been 22.5 percent, when compared with the previous 18-month period.
Since June 2015, the 817.9 billion gallons saved is enough water to supply more than 12.5 million people with water for a year has been saved at the state level.
South Lake Tahoe residents, along with rest of state, continue to conserve water

Groundwater basins and many reservoirs are badly depleted as the state’s drought grinds into a fifth year. Those living in, and visiting, South Lake Tahoe, have enjoyed higher water levels to view, boat and recreate in.
Letter to the Editor: City’s 4th of July Parade a huge success

There were a total of 78 vehicles and approximately 200 people on foot either walking, biking, or dancing. American Legion Post 795 served as the parade marshals.
The City of South Lake Tahoe would like to say "Thank You" to all the parade participants, businesses and volunteers for making the 4th of July parade a fantastic community event!

Even though Mancuso was name to the team she will miss out on the season due to hip surgery, but has her sights set on the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang.

South Lake Tahoe students learn about local history
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/16/2015 - 10:57amWho were the first residents of the Lake Tahoe basin? How do you convey the word "SOS" in Morse Code? What is the 1930's cabin tour? If you don't know the answers to these questions, ask a third grader.
In the month of October, 220 students from third grade classes in Lake Tahoe Unified School District took field trips to the Lake Tahoe History Museum where they spent a morning with hands on displays, singing and docent led museum tours.
The school tours started in 2010 when Jackie Dumin, the Tallac Site Director for the U.S. Forest Service, developed the program.

South Lake Tahoe community exceeds water conservation goals
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/06/2015 - 9:24pmWhen Governor Jerry Brown told the residents of the state to cut back their water usage, he had the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) tell each region how much to cut back. That benchmark in South Lake Tahoe was 20%.
For the past three months, residents have cut much more than that. In May, water use at South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) was down 34%, followed by 24% in June and 27% in July. This is on top of the 27% reduction in water use that the district's customer have accomplished since 2007.
Established winery takes the show in Amador

It’s different from its bordering El Dorado and Calaveras county competitions in that Amador only allows wines to be entered if they’re made exclusively from grapes grown in the seven-county Sierra foothill appellation. This year saw a record high of 445 wines entered in the Amador judging from more than 70 wineries. The contest was judges by 22 people from a wide range of wine-related backgrounds.
Years of water conservation have helped South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/19/2015 - 10:12pmAs one can imagine, Donielle Morse has been very busy lately. As the Water Conservationist specialist for the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD), Morse spends her days informing, teaching and keeping up on the new state water mandates.
Drought or no drought, water conservation is necessary and its the reason South Lake Tahoe is faring better than most communities in the West. Since 2007, local water users have cut back 27% of their annual water usage.

Doug was the son of August William Anderson and Bridget Anderson.
Doug has left behind his wife, Sue Swanson Anderson of 20 years, and two beautiful and amazing children, Bailey Nichole Anderson and Daniel August Anderson. He is also survived by his four sisters, Alice Anderson Palmer and her son Hunter Busenlehner, Betsy Kelly, Kate Anderson and Maureen Walker.
Ken Newbold of MontBleu wins People's Choice at Barton Cocktail Contest

The festive and lively evening featured nine bartenders who were challenged to create a drink that featured Tahoe Blue Vodka. Contestants included Stephen Camp (Heavenly), Gary Gramprie (LewMarNel’s), Ian Sievwright (MacDuff’s ), Alice Schmalenberger (Mc P’s Pub ), Ken Newbold (MontBleu), Josh Thompson (Nepheles ), Erick Martinez (Riva Grill), Mara Milich (Sonney’s BBQ ), and Rob Morse (The Boathouse).

The team will formally named in the fall during Nature Valley First Tracks at Copper Mountain, CO – home of the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center.
