The academy they attended was taught at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) by members of the Douglas County Search and Rescue Team, consisting of training in the classroom and practical training in the field.

Earth Day recognizes, celebrates and promotes our region’s unique beauty while educating people about its environmental issues. South Lake Tahoe’s free event includes children’s activities, local vendors, environmental booths, nature walks with Tahoe Institute for Natural Science, and live “river rock and mountain blues” by Boot Juice.
TRPA: What's new for the 2019 Lake Tahoe boating season
Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/18/2019 - 9:50amLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – New boating safety programs are coming online at Lake Tahoe this summer, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).
Additional enforcement of no-wake zones and excessive boat noise under TRPA’s Shoreline Program are two measures being taken to protect the lake and non-motorized watercraft and swimmers. Boat inspections fees are also being adjusted for the first time in seven years to better safeguard the lake from aquatic invasive species, and sticker fees now include a $12 fee as part of the Shoreline Program.

These features flow directly into Lake Tahoe and carry fine sediment pollution from our roads and neighborhoods into the lake, further degrading its clarity.
Laser measurement of Sierra snowpack from the air being considered in Sacramento
Submitted by paula on Tue, 04/09/2019 - 8:17pmAt a price tag of $150 million, the California legislature is considering a bill that, if approved, would change the way the Sierra snowpack is measured each year.
For 90 years the snowpack has been measured at several locations including Phillips, just west of Lake Tahoe. Normally performed in front of media, staff from the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) snowshoe into a spot where they stick a pole into the snow to measure the depth and water content of the snow.

The Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan approved by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency in 2018 requires lakefront property owners, homeowners’ associations, and marinas to register all existing boat moorings, including buoys, boatlifts, and boat slips.

Nevadans protest and testify against Senate Bee Bill in Carson City
Submitted by paula on Sat, 04/06/2019 - 11:35amCarson City was abuzz Thursday evening at the Nevada State Legislature, in which over 100 Nevadan residents gathered to support honeybees, and their ability to be kept by residents.
Senate Bill 389 relates to the ability to keep bees in residential zones in Nevada and has been hotly debated since it was announced on March 20. It was read during a Natural Resources Committee meeting Wednesday.
Residents attended to an extent that legislative staff needed to open an overflow room to provide for those gathered, in which the meeting was televised from down the hall.

Is was not a normal April Fool's Day when Rah's owner Angela Zajic opened the doors on her new place for the first time. In the works for five months, the new space in The Crossing next to Verde Mexican Rotisserie has been turned into something that looks like it's straight from the pages of Etsy and Pinterest.

A collaboration of 17 agencies and organizations have been working on the plan which covers the stretch from 15th street in South Lake Tahoe to the Placer County line at Sugar Pine Point State Park. Along the plan area are popular areas to view scenery, hike, bike and visit beaches along a 12 mile stretch of undeveloped shoreline.

Winter Storm Warning through Sunday in Lake Tahoe

After a day that saw mostly rain at lake level, the National Weather Service updated the warning, extending the length of the warning that originally issued and lowering snow levels through the three-day period.

Nominations sought for Lake Tahoe HIghway 50 Main Street working group

Survey finds 18 Million trees died in California in 2018
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/11/2019 - 1:15pmWhile the rate at which trees died in California has slowed, an additional 18 million trees (mostly conifers) have died in the state, bringing a commitment from both the USDA Forest Service and CALFIRE to make forest health their top priority.
The USDA Forest Service announced today over 147 million trees have died across 9.7 million acres of federal, state, local and private lands in California since the drought began in 2010. Since 2016, federal, state, and local partners have felled 1.5 million dead trees, primarily those posing the highest hazards to life and property.

Human trafficking is defined as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by means of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, for the purpose of exploitation. Public memorial for Judge Terrence Finney in South Lake Tahoe Friday
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/03/2019 - 9:58amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A public memorial for the first superior court judge in the community, the Honorable Terrence M. Finney, will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Department 3 of the South Lake Tahoe courthouse.
Finney passed away on November 7, 2018 at the age of 84.

Tahoe Douglas Fire boat named one of '10 Significant Boats of 2018'
Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/23/2018 - 1:18amThe boat Lisa "Angel of Tahoe" Maloff and Bob and Nackey Scagliotti helped bring to the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) in 2017 was named one of WorkBoat magazine’s “10 Significant Boats of 2018” an international in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Lake Assault Boats fire and rescue craft on duty with TDFPD, named Marine 24, was christened in 2017. At a cost of $500,000 it is designed to respond to a wide range of emergencies, including structural and wildland fires, and on-the-water rescue operations.
