Fire upates for NorCal and Northern Nevada fires

An update for recent fires in El Dorado County, Yosemite, Pyramid Lake and Redding, Calif.

The Ferguson Fire near the western border of Yosemite is now in its 22nd day. It has consumed 73,560 acres and is now 41 percent contained. Yosemite National Park announces Yosemite Valley, Wawona Road, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, the Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias, Hetch Hetchy, and other areas will remain closed to all visitors through Sunday, August 5, 2018 due to continued unhealthy smoke impacts and ongoing firefighting operations.

South Lake Tahoe had a warm July; Week of 80s ahead

When looking back at the month of July, each day's high temperatures in South Lake Tahoe were above average except for one, which was equal to the high. Even though July was a warm month, no record highs were set.

After such a warm month, August is starting out much the same.

Over 5,000 firefighters battling 24 fires across California and Nevada

Several fires in California and Nevada are burning on Sunday with thousands of firefighting personnel fighting the blazes. The list below is of current fires in both states, updated with information available at 11:00 a.m. on July 9.

California Fires

Alamo Fire - 23,867 acres, 10 percent contained, San Luis Obispo County

Schaeffer Fire - 14,342 acres, 11 percent contained, 798 personnel, 17 miles north of Kernville, CA

Whittier Fire - 7,800 acres, 5 percent contained, 400 personnel with more on the way, Lake Cachuma, Santa Barbara County

Fire Weather Watch on for Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada

The Great Basin of Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area will see gusty winds and dry conditions Wednesday according to the National Weather Service. In South Lake Tahoe, wind advisory starts at 1 p.m. and will last until 11 p.m.

Winds will be southwest from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Waves on the lake will be 2 to 4 feet and the temperatures will range from a low of 52 tonight to a high of 72 today.
