Chautauqua of John Steinbeck and Star Party at Dangberg Historic Park

June 13, 2018 - 6:30pm Chautauquan Tom Lorentzen will portray American author John Steinbeck at 6:30 pm, followed by stargazing with the Astronomical Society of Nevada at 9:00 pm, on Wednesday, June 13 at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.
John Steinbeck was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1962. Among his classic works are The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden and Of Mice and Men. The year 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of his death. Although most recognized for his fiction, Steinbeck also wrote non-fiction.

Air quality in El Dorado County affected by Northern California fires
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/11/2017 - 5:05pmAir quality in El Dorado County is currently being impacted by smoke from wildfires burning in the State. County health officials are reminding residents to take precautions should wildfire smoke impact the areas in which they live, work and recreate. According to Air Pollution Control Officer Dave Johnston, wildfires can produce smoke that causes health problems, particularly for children, older people and those with heart disease or respiratory issues.
Johnston advises residents to limit outdoor activity if they see or smell smoke.

New zip line to go through treetops in South Lake Tahoe this summer
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/14/2017 - 6:22pmThe Silver Rush, a new 4,159-foot long zip line opening this summer at Heavenly's Epic Discovery, will take users from tree-to-tree at speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Overlooking the Carson Valley, Silver Rush is comprised of five segmented zip lines; the final of which flies guests over the waters of East Peak Lake.
Once the ride is completed, guests enjoy a scenic ATV ride back to the top of the Gondola. It is a three-hour long experience.
SOS Outreach wins $50,000 award from Gatorade
Submitted by admin on Fri, 12/02/2016 - 8:22pmA charity with operations in South Lake Tahoe is the recipient of the national $50,000 Gatorade "For the Love of Sports" campaign. Besides Lake Tahoe, SOS Outreach serves youth in Colorado and Seattle.
"Thank you to the Tahoe community for the support during the For the Love of Sports Campaign to help us win the $50,000," said Theresa Papandrea, VP of Youth Programs for Lake Tahoe.
Papandrea said the SOS Outreach efforts will serve around 700 local youth and 5,000 nationally.

Kat's Daily Cups is a collection of short stories about raising children, the love of animals, life's challenges, gratitude, inspiration and awakenings. Kat Simmons says some stories will make the reader laugh and some may make them cry. Simmons hopes her book will become a personal book to the reader, in an interactive journey and will answer the question. "What is in your Daily Cup today?".

Legendary Tower of Power to headline 2016 Concert Under the Stars benefit for Greenhouse Project

Juanita Westbrook returns to Dangberg Historic Park, this time as a storyteller. Westbrook will present both original and familiar stories and poems, incorporating her own unique creative style. Her stories are interactive, have morals, teach important social-skills, build and foster cooperative learning and are fun for all ages.
