SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams has issued a "Shelter in Place" for all county residents effective on Friday, March 20 starting at 11:59 p.m.

Residents are being directed to remain at home except to engage in essential activities in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Earlier today, Placer County did the same thing which affects North Lake Tahoe.

There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County and this action is meant to help keep the spread minimal when cases are confirmed.

STATELINE, Nev. - Lakeside Inn in Stateline, Nevada became the first South Shore casino to close due to coronavirus COVID-19 concerns.

"This decision was based on concern for the health of our community and of our staff members," said Lakeside Inn President Stacy Noyes. "We decided to take the lead and help our family. It's the responsible thing to do."

All employees not working will get two weeks of pay. Noyes said the situation and decisions are evolving daily and the initial plan is to close for two weeks.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) not attending school for at least three weeks, District officials have coordinated a plan to get breakfast and lunch to them. These two meals were offered by LTUSD at each school.

Bread & Broth 4 Kids has also created a plan to distribute bags of food to youth on their program.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. Vail Resorts announced Saturday that they are suspending the operations of all of their North American mountain resorts, retail stores and corporate offices beginning tomorrow, March 15, 2020, for at least one week (through March 22) to assess the rest of the season.

This includes Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Resort and Northstar in the Lake Tahoe area.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) sent out a letter to all students and staff concerning the district's Pandemic Preparedness Plan in regards to travel and self-quarantine.

Effective Monday, March 9, 2020, all students and staff returning from travel out-of-the-country or from COVID-19 infected areas in California or other areas of the United States are strongly recommended to self-quarantine in their home for 14 consecutive days beginning the date of their return to South Lake Tahoe.

The 2020 Expo has been canceled. They plan on returning in March 2021.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The annual Tahoe Chamber Business EXPO will be held on Friday, May 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Harrah's Tahoe. It was originally scheduled for March 27 but postponed due to coronavirus concerns.

Lobo, a large Siberian Husky, was accidentally let out of a hotel complex while the family was away. Witnesses tried to render aid at the scene but Lobo panicked, bit them and ran off.

They may not be able to continue prescribed fire operations at some sites because of increased snow loads, but some units are able to continue burning.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The long-discussed 56-acre parcel in the middle of South Lake Tahoe is finally seeing movement again, and both the South Lake Tahoe City Council and El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (BOS) supporting further conversation. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An unscheduled prescribed burn at Fallen Leaf Lake on Thursday was the cause of concern from many Lake Tahoe area residents as smoke could be seen for miles.

Fire officials from the USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit were in the area to do test burns for a future ignition when they found the conditions to be right to start their 50-acre project of burning hand piles along Fallen Leaf Lake Road near South Lake Tahoe.
