July 22, 2017 - 11:00am A free Western Heritage Celebration returns to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, July 22, beginning at 11:00 am.
The event’s second year will include a heritage quilting presentation, a Victorian dressing presentation, songs about local history and cowboy poetry, as well as gold panning and other children’s activities.
The Carson Valley Quilt Guild returns for its second year and will give a demonstration on a variety of quilting methods including the “Crazy Quilt”. This demonstration is from 11:00 am until Noon.

About Being Homeless: Meet Blue at SLT Library

Join us for a talk with local author and poet, Blue Marie Balcita. Ms. Balcita was homeless on the streets of South Lake Tahoe at age thirteen. She is now a best-selling author, entrepreneur, and the Chief Sociology Analyst at The Analysis Project. She will be coming to the South Lake Tahoe Library to discuss her books, poetry, and the ordinary yet extraordinary madness of her life. Her books will be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library and the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless. Open to all.

El Dorado County names Poet Laureate

Taylor Graham was chosen by a panel of literary experts because of the caliber of her work, her engagement with poets and writers in the community, and the critical acclaim her work has garnered.

October 10, 2015 - 11:00am Writers, readers and performers from all around the country will appear at South Lake Tahoe Oct. 9-11, 2015 for WordWave, a three-day festival held on the grounds of Valhalla at the Tallac Historic Site. This literary mash-up will feature oral storytelling, theater performances and free readings, panels on craft, yoga, and a novel writing camp for kids. Highlights include a one-act playwriting contest, a Maker’s Station demo with bookbinding, letterpress, drum making, and found poetry and art. English professor releases new book of poems, “Of Dirt and Tar”

The second, full-length collection of poetry by Saraceno, the English department chair at Sierra Nevada College, will be released March 1 by Cherry Grove Collections, with accolades on its jacket by some of the nation’s top poets.

Local poet, LTCC faculty member Janet Smith wins national award

Poet Arthur Smith chose the poem from a short list of finalists.
“The subject matter, the reading experience in childhood, could have been easily sentimentalized, but the poet consistently pulls back from that with an even more powerful detail which sees into the heart of the creation of the imagination,” he said.
