Lake Tahoe Summit: Bi-state, bipartisan effort to preserve Tahoe never complete
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/22/2017 - 9:15pmAchievements in preserving Lake Tahoe were celebrated August 22 during the 21st Lake Tahoe Summit at Tallac Historic Site, but it was clear there is a lot more to do and the job will never be over.
Started by former President Bill Clinton in 1996, this annual gathering of government, public agencies and private partners highlights what has been done, what is being done, what what still needs to be done in keeping Lake Tahoe clean and clear.
Record heat in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/09/2017 - 12:55amBoth South Lake Tahoe and Reno saw records break with their high temperatures on Saturday, July 8. SLT's 89°F broke the 28-year-old record high of 87°F, and Reno's 104°F broke their previous high of 99°F.
Will there be more record high temperatures this week in South Lake Tahoe?
Not according to the National Weather Service forecast with highs in the mid-80s and records around 90°F.
South Lake Tahoe has record heat in forecast
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/25/2015 - 11:34pmWhile the Sacramento valley sees record temperatures well above 100, South Lake Tahoe may also break a record high temp on Friday, June 26.
The forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) is calling for 88 degrees, just above the record high of 87 the South Shore had in 1981.
Saturday should tie the record of 87.
Accuweather.com's extended forecast shows South Lake Tahoe has a chance to break all records over the July 4th weekend. They are calling for 95 degrees on July 3 and 4.

South Lake Tahoe sets record highs 11 of first 18 days in February
Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/18/2015 - 11:50pmThe record high temperature of 64 in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday gave the area its 11th day of record heat for the month of February (and that's just in 18 days!)
With an average low of 17 degrees and an average high of 42 degrees, the 50 and 60 degrees days at the lake have been far above average.
According to records kept by the National Weather Service (weather.gov) and intellicast.com, the following data shows the days this month records were set along with the previous high.
February 1 - Record high set at 59, former record was 56 set in 1995.
South Lake Tahoe beats record high temperature Sunday, more heat on way
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/14/2014 - 9:52amSouth Lake Tahoe hit 91 degrees on Sunday, breaking a 15 year old record. Surrounding areas also broke records including the Reno International Airport who reported a temperature of 103 Sunday, breaking a previous record of 102 set in 1972.
It is expected to reach 91 degrees in South Lake Tahoe again on Monday, breaking the record on this date of 88 which was recorded in 1933 according to accuweather.com.
The normal highs for this time of year are near 81.
