The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is proposing to relocate the Zephyr Point Fire Lookout from its current location to a new site on top of White Hill above Spooner Summit in Douglas County, Nev. The lookout, which was determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, would be dismantled from its current location and reassembled at the new site.

The next two Tech Tuesday courses will focus on tips & tricks for using Microsoft Office suites. These workshops are suitable for all levels of computer skills, particularly businesses and individuals already using Microsoft products who would like to learn to use them more effectively.

In November, Sanne Steele, The Software Consultant and Microsoft Certified partner will be taking attendees on an interactive tutorial of Word, Excel, and Outlook. December’s course will be more graphically oriented, diving into PowerPoint and Publisher.

The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency and Active Aging program are presenting a free educational series in South Lake Tahoe. The series will give instruction and support to persons aged 60 years and older and to their family members and friends. The classes will be held on Mondays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. beginning October 21 through November 25, 2013 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel (formerly Embassy Suites), located at 4130 South Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe. South Lake Tahoe police arrested a man on Monday for allegedly skinning a raccoon after a foot chase ended on the South Tahoe Middle School ball field.

Kevin Burroughs, 37, faces several charges including unlawful taking of wildlife. He is also a parolee and a registered sex offender out of California and had a felony warrant for being a parolee-at-large. The raccoon’s remains were recovered and destroyed by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects responsible for several burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The unknown suspects committed burglaries at four separate locations in Douglas County; including a commercial burglary at the Genoa Bar, two burglaries at unoccupied homes in a residential neighborhood in Genoa, and several vehicle burglaries at two local auto repair shops in Gardnerville.
