Celebrities Attend Grand Opening of The Landing in South Lake Tahoe

Model and television personality Heidi Klum hit the red carpet in South Lake Tahoe Saturday night to help celebrate the opening of the new luxury hotel, The Landing. She was joined by 10 time Grammy award winner Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, local business owners and associates.

The party highlighted what the hotel is bringing to the south shore: a 5 star boutique property with high end amenities, a beautiful onyx bar, a restaurant under the direction of a celebrated British chef, fire pits as well as a new wedding and event venue.

Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel Invests $5 Million in Renovations

What many locals remember as Embassy Suites, the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is still a thriving and vibrant part of the community. On April 1 of this year, the hotel owners, Ken Corporation, Ltd and management team, PHR Management, announced that they would be dropping the franchise agreement with Embassy Suites and become the Lake Tahoe Resort. Since then, they have been investing $5 million in property renovations and upgrading all 400 rooms in the nine-story all-suite hotel. The work is taking place in phases with completion planned for the winter season.

Lake-saving incentives now part of Lake Tahoe Regional Plan

New ordinances regarding land coverage at Lake Tahoe came into effect June 19 following final approval of a key water quality plan by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and EPA announced recently.

The action updates the Clean Water Act Section 208 Lake Tahoe Water Quality Management Plan — last fully updated in 1988. The 208 Plan provides a comprehensive framework for water quality management in the Lake Tahoe basin and includes provisions for land coverage limits.

Festival of Trees and Lights begins Thursday

Barton Foundation’s fourth annual Festival of Trees and Lights will begin this Thursday, Nov. 29 and run through Sunday, Dec. 2 at Montbleu Resort Casino and Spa, Convention Center.

Throughout the last three-years, Barton Foundation has dedicated funds raised from The Festival to Barton Health’s Community Clinic expansion and renovation. A Level III trauma center, located in Barton Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department (E.D.), is this year’s fundraising initiative.

Winter was once-again the theme at the third annual Barton Foundation “Signature” Cocktail Contest on Thursday, September 13 at Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe. The contest drew 177 attendees and grossed $5,900.30 for Barton Memorial Hospital’s Level III trauma center designation. Serving as the official “kick-off” of the four-day Festival of Trees & Lights to be held Thursday, November 29 through December 2 at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, the contest included mixologists [bartenders] from 10 restaurants around South Lake Tahoe.

Thunderbird Lodge at Lake Tahoe among several Nevada Tourism grant winners

Needed improvements at the Thunderbird Lodge got a lift on Wednesday when the Nevada Commission on Tourism announced the Lake Tahoe site was among several to win an improvement project grant.
Grants were awarded to 19 different projects. The announcement was made by Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki.
NCOT's Projects Relating to Tourism Grants program help fund infrastructure improvements that will attract visitors, and after a temporary suspension due to a decline in tourism revenues, the grants were reinstated this year.

Lead safe worker training offered by South Lake Tahoe and LTCC

The City of South Lake Tahoe and Lake Tahoe Community College Connect Community Education are sponsoring the Renovator, Repair, Painter (RRP) and Supervisor Trainings for local area contractors. The Lead Safe Worker 8-hour training for Renovators, Repair and Painters is being offered at LTCC campus on June 30th, July 20th, August 4th, and September 14th. The cost to attend the training is $50 and up to two workers from each local company are welcome to participate.

Voters approve Measure R, two new STPUD board members
