Celebrities Attend Grand Opening of The Landing in South Lake Tahoe

Model and television personality Heidi Klum hit the red carpet in South Lake Tahoe Saturday night to help celebrate the opening of the new luxury hotel, The Landing. She was joined by 10 time Grammy award winner Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, local business owners and associates.

The party highlighted what the hotel is bringing to the south shore: a 5 star boutique property with high end amenities, a beautiful onyx bar, a restaurant under the direction of a celebrated British chef, fire pits as well as a new wedding and event venue.

The grand opening took place Friday and Saturday, January 25 and 26 at the hotel which is located at 4104 Lakeshore Blvd, the former location of the Royal Valhalla Lodge.

Friday night's private event was a dinner hosted by owners Jim and Nancy Demetriades for their friends and family. South Lake Tahoe dignitaries, chamber of commerce members, local politicians and other business associates were in attendance at Saturday's invitation only cocktail party.

Klum was at The Landing for Saturday's party, having flown to South Lake Tahoe Friday night after appearing on Jay Leno's Tonight Show. Babyface was on hand for both nights and entertained party goers with a little of the music he is famous for.

It was a little bit Hollywood on Saturday as everyone attending via South Lake Tahoe's own Red Carpet. Photos were taken and people were whisked inside to enjoy the food and drinks of Jimmy's, the hotel's new restaurant.

Jim and Nancy Demetriades

The new owners are no strangers to owning a hotel in the mountains. They operate the Sierra Nevada Resort at Mammoth Lakes. In 2004, Jim sold his computer software company to concentrate on raising five children with Nancy. Nancy was a working actress in the 80’s. She starred in several feature films, television films, and guest starred in many television shows. Her more recent experience in interior design came in handy as she and Jim were solely responsible for every detail of the hotel and restaurant renovation.

"We've create The Landing out of our own desire for a five-star property located on the lake," said Jim Demetriades. "We want to provide guests with luxurious accommodations that seamlessly integrate with the natural beauty of our unique lakeside setting."

As with their Mammoth property, they want the community to gather and meet as well as having a place for their out of town guests to enjoy. The Landing has many event rental spaces, a rooftop wedding venue with fireplace as well as intimate fireside dining in Jimmy's.

A nice benefit for locals is their nightly complimentary wine tasting from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.
