Work underway on Al Tahoe Safety and Mobility Project in South Lake Tahoe

After a restriping/lane change pilot project in 2017 that reconfigured two of the four vehicle travel lanes and added buffered bike lanes on Al Tahoe Blvd., the rest of the project has now begun. The project has been years in the making through the planning, funding, public input, and permitting stages.
Naloxone saving lives locally and across the country
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/15/2019 - 12:49pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Naloxone, a medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid and heroin overdoses, is carried on police and deputy vehicles, ambulances and fire engines, giving first responders the chance to save lives. The problem of these overdoses is so widespread most medics and ambulances have administered the medication dozens of times, even in South Lake Tahoe and the surrounding counties.
Home severely damaged in South Lake Tahoe fire
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/25/2018 - 8:48pm10.3.18 update: The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department has released their final report on the September 22 fire at a Sonora Avenue home.
According to their report, the exact cause of the fire could not be determined except that it started on the couch on the first floor.
Property loss is estimated at $200,000 with an additional $50,000 in contents loss. Smoke detectors were installed at the home and all went off when the fire started.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Emergency crews responded to two South Lake Tahoe fires on Saturday, one a house fire and another a brush fire.
Marine Marching Band to be in South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/26/2018 - 12:47pmThe City of South Lake Tahoe is honored to announce the Marine Band San Diego Marching Band will be in the 4th of July Parade on Wednesday, July 4th at 10:00 a.m. The parade will be immediately followed by a celebratory BBQ benefiting local American Legion Post 795 and performances by the Marine Band San Diego. The BBQ and performances will be held at Bijou Community Park located at 1201 Al Tahoe Blvd.

There will once again be a 4th of July Parade through South Lake Tahoe, and the community is invited to participate.
Celebrate the nation's birthday on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 beginning at 10:00 a.m. There is a new route this year. The parade will be staged on Ski Run Boulevard and head West on Highway 50 to Al Tahoe Boulevard where the parade will lead up Al Tahoe Blvd. and conclude again at Bijou Community Park with a community barbecue.
Two Douglas County businesses cited for selling liquor to minors
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/08/2018 - 4:15pmThe Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) went to 27 local businesses on February 1 to conduct an operation to make sure they were being compliant with state law with reference to alcohol sales to minors.
The following 25 businesses were checked and they successfully passed the alcohol compliance check and did not sell alcohol to a minor.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Over 75 float and vehicle entries as well as over 200 walkers will be participating in the 2nd annual City of South Lake Tahoe's 4th of July parade.
The July 4 parade will start at 10:00 a.m. at the "Y," where Highways 50 and 89 intersect, and follow Highway 50 to Al Tahoe Boulevard and end at Bijou Park where a family friendly After Party will take place immediately following the conclusion of the parade. There will be a BBQ at the party with all proceeds going to the American Legion.
World Autism Awareness Day fundraiser in South Lake Tahoe

The 9th annual World Autism Awareness Day is Sunday, April 2, and the Tahoe Tot Spot is holding a fundraiser to assist families with access to enrichment for those who cannot afford it.
On April 2, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tahoe Tot Spot is having a celebration in recognition of autism.
"We will celebrate with free entry for all kiddos rocking the spectrum or special needs," said Tot Spot owner Jen Bloch.
Raffles tickets are being sold to the entire community and attendance on April 2 is not required. They are $1 each, 6 for $5, 13 for 10$, 25 for $20.

Five businesses cited for selling alcohol to minors in Douglas County

On November 2, Douglas County Sheriff's Office visited 28 businesses with liquor licenses to determine if they were being compliant with state law and not selling to minors.
Wal-Mart North County, Maverick, World Market, Grocery Outlet and Lucky Discount Liquor all received citations for furnishing alcohol to people under the age of 21. The employees who sold the alcohol was also cited.
The following businesses were checked and they successfully passed the alcohol compliance check.
Firefighters quickly put out two fires on the South Shore
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/17/2016 - 1:34pmFirefighters responded to two small fires on Sunday, one at Round Hill and the other in the meadow behind the Ross store.
A person walking behind the US Forest Service building and Ross/Rite Aid building saw a fire and rushed into Ross to call 911. Firefighters responded quickly and the small fire was quickly extinguished. The fire was only able to burn a 5 ft x 5 ft square. The cause is under investigation.
Suspected pipe bomb found in South Lake Tahoe turns out to be hoax
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/04/2016 - 7:28am10:35 a.m. update: The "all clear" is about to be given at the El Dorado County Government Center. The bomb has been considered a hoax device meant to cause the major response by law enforcement that it did, according to SLTPD Chief Brian Uhler. Evidence is being gathered and roads will soon reopen.
At approximately 6:35 a.m. this morning, a groundskeeper working at the El Dorado County Courthouse located at 1354 Johnson Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe noticed a suspicious device in front of the courthouse.

South Lake Tahoe's Cork & More is not going to close at the end of the month as previously announced. The media coverage of their closing brought potential buyers out of the woodwork. Stay tuned to see if a sale is successful.

Lockdowns at college, school and hospital in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/14/2015 - 5:34pmThere were three incidents in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday that resulted in lockdowns at Lake Tahoe Community College, South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) and Barton Memorial Hospital.
At noon, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received a call concerning a man carrying a rifle, walking away from the area near Barton Hospital towards the meadow behind Grocery Outlet. They did not locate anyone at that time, but this incident relates to the third one received.
City selling lot on corner of Ski Run Blvd and Highway 50 to developer
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/19/2015 - 10:27pmThe City of South Lake Tahoe is set to sell the vacant lot they own on the southwest corner of Ski Run Blvd and Highway 50 during Tuesday's City Council meeting.
A purchase and sale agreement between the Halferty Development Company, LLC of Pasadena, CA and the City of South Lake Tahoe was created on January 5, 2015 and will be voted on January 20, 2015. The agreement shows that Halferty has offered $1,100,000 for the lot and will get 12,000 square feet of commercial floor space with the sale.
