Lake Tahoe Unified School District Receives Report Card
Submitted by Editor on Sat, 10/15/2011 - 4:28pmSouth Lake Tahoe Unified School District recently received the Academic Performance Index scores for the year 2011.
The API Target is 800 or above. Overall, the district dropped one point from 2010 (781 to 780). Below are the detailed scores for each school:
The Magnet school dropped 4 points to 935 - However it is the highest score in all of El Dorado County.
Bijou went from 718 to 701, having made substantial gains from 689 in 2009.
Sierra House did well in gaining 13 points 813 to 836.

Amid voting for favorite websites, blogs, restaurants, American Idol contestants and more, residents of South Lake Tahoe have the opportunity to vote in an actual public election. Elections for the Lake Tahoe Community College board, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District board, the South Tahoe Public Utility District board and a ballot measure regarding recreation funds will all be decided by voters on Nov. 8.
More city services on the chopping block; budget meeting Thursday

A special meeting of the South Lake Tahoe City Council to discuss the 2011-12 budget will be held this Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7pm. Not only is this the first look the public will have at the proposed budget, but this may be the only opportunity for public input before layoffs in crucial departments like streets and recreation. The regular council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.

LTCC grant to help local kids move onward, upward
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 08/25/2011 - 6:37pmLake Tahoe Community College has been awarded a five-year federal grant designed to provide academic support for 500 low-income, first generation college-bound students from South Tahoe Middle School and South Tahoe High. The Department of Education grant will be consist of five annual payments of about $230,000 each, said LTCC spokeswoman Christina Proctor. The college was informed it had been awarded the grant by the offices of California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer.
