South Lake Tahoe knows how to throw a holiday bash and the one planned this Friday is sure to bring smiles, thrills and some welcome bliss after the weekend's series of storms.
The annual Community Winter Tree Lighting will be Friday at the California Visitor Center, 3066 Lake Tahoe Blvd. South Lake Tahoe and runs from 5 to 7 p.m.
A Guaranteed 'White Christmas' at South Tahoe Viking Theatre
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 12/02/2012 - 1:39pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The ultimate Christmastime crowd-pleaser show will see its final performances at the Viking Theatre at South Tahoe High School’s Tahoe Arts and Design Academy Dec. 14-15 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. It’s the holiday favorite musical production of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas performed by the students of South Tahoe High School’s Performing Arts Department.
Festival of Trees and Lights begins Thursday
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 11/26/2012 - 7:52pmBarton Foundation’s fourth annual Festival of Trees and Lights will begin this Thursday, Nov. 29 and run through Sunday, Dec. 2 at Montbleu Resort Casino and Spa, Convention Center.
Throughout the last three-years, Barton Foundation has dedicated funds raised from The Festival to Barton Health’s Community Clinic expansion and renovation. A Level III trauma center, located in Barton Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department (E.D.), is this year’s fundraising initiative.

Submitted by Editor on Thu, 11/22/2012 - 10:34amLast Thursday, Elaine and I spent an enjoyable morning (as usual) fishing for Mackinaw (Lake) Trout at Lake Tahoe with our longtime friend and sport fishing guide, Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters at South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
"Gino" has fished Tahoe for some 30 years and is one of the top, if not the top, fishing guides at that lake.
Sigh, and as usual on that day, Man's Favorite Sport belonged to Elaine for the fourth straight year!
South Lake Tahoe Police warn of car repair scam

Two men approached an 89-year-old in the Safeway store parking lot on Johnson Boulevard and offered to fix a dent in the senior citizen's car for $80 in cash plus an additional $20 for more work later.

Tahoe Douglas Fire District uses insurance bonus money to reward local nonprofits

The money directed to the nonprofit groups comes from the fire district's health insurance plan operated through consultant LBG Advisors.

Heavenly Mountain Resort kicks off South Lake Tahoe summer season

Nevada Governor to Extend Sunsetting Taxes Into Next Two-Year Budget To Avoid Education Cuts
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 4:51pmCARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval said today he will propose to extend a package of taxes now set to expire in June 2013 into the next budget to avoid further cuts to education, which he said cannot withstand further reductions.
To maintain a basically flat spending plan for the two-year budget that will begin on July 1, 2013, Sandoval said the modified business tax that was maintained at a higher rate for large businesses in the 2011 legislative session, along with a small increase in the sales tax, must be continued.
