Winter weather advisory in effect until Sunday afternoon for Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/19/2016 - 12:11amExpect a windy and snowy weekend in South Lake Tahoe! Ski resorts on the South Shore had to postpone opening days, so maybe Mother Nature will be helping them out!
There is a wind advisory in place for South Lake Tahoe in advance of the winter storm headed our way. Expect winds 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph overnight Friday, increasing Saturday to 20-30 mph and gusts to 55 mph. Ridgetop winds could gust up to 110 mph. Waves on the lake are expected to be 2-5' with the highest on the north and east shore.
The winds subside slightly as a winter storm moves in.
Snowfall totals in South Lake Tahoe already surpass winter of 2014
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/25/2015 - 3:02pmWhile the storms hitting the Sierra this December are not unusual, they are very different from recent winters.
As of Christmas Day, 2015, all South Lake Tahoe ski resorts are reporting more snow than they had during the whole 2014 ski season.
Heavenly Valley - 167" of snow in November and December, to date; 87" last season.
Sierra-at-Tahoe - 173" reported, 120" last season.
Kirkwood - 194" reported, 188" last season.
Almost 4" of rain in South Lake Tahoe; Ski Resorts get help
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/09/2015 - 11:08amEven though snowfall in South Lake Tahoe was minimal during the most recent storm which is heading out of the region Monday evening, local ski resorts are reporting decent numbers.
It is still snowing at some resorts, but currently Sierra at Tahoe is reporting 20" of snow out of the storm, 16" reported at Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood is listing 18" of fresh powder.
