LuLu Hair Design hosting South Lake Tahoe St. Baldricks

Event Date:
April 21, 2018 - 6:00pm

(Note: The location inside Harrah's Tahoe has changed, see below)

Every year, men, women and children get their heads shaved to raise funds to fight childhood cancer. This year, a new sponsor for the event has come forward, LuLu Hair Design, and there will be a new venue, Harrah's Lake Tahoe.

Dianna Souza, the owner, and her staff at LuLu's wanted to keep this popular fundraiser going, so put together the event quickly and are looking for support, and participants, from the community.

One by one they lined up. Boys and girls, men and women, families, fire fighters, ski patrol, students and dozens of others all lined up at Heavenly Mountain Resort Friday night to have their heads shaved, all in the name of children's cancer research. 110 people in total stopped by to "Brave the Shave" and raise funds to support research of childhood cancer.

Event Date:

The event has already raised over $45,000, even though the shaving doesn't begin until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5. This is the fifth consecutive year for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation event, Brave the Shave for Kids with Cancer, in South Lake Tahoe. They have moved it this year to the Heavenly Mountain Resort California Lodge located at 3860 Saddle Road.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.

Kudos: The South Shore community members have big hearts!

The South Shore community members have big hearts! I wanted to send my congratulations to the organizers and participants at the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fund raiser on Friday, February 27th at the Ice Arena in South Lake Tahoe. What a fantastic event for a foundation with the goal to “Conquer Childhood Cancers.” Thank you!

South Lake Tahoe shaves heads to raise money

The floor of the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena resembled a large hair salon on Friday as almost 100 people, young and old, male and female, had their heads shaved for childhood cancer research. The 4th annual St. Baldrick's fundraiser has raised over $55,000 so far in 2015, and donations are still being accepted.

Christy Smith started the local St. Baldrick's event in 2011 in honor of her grandson, South Tahoe High junior Bailey Johnson. Bailey was a four time Stage 4 cancer survivor by the time he was 5.
