Teresa Diane Golden ~ 1944 - 2020

Teresa Diane Golden, known as Teri, passed away peacefully in her home on December 29, 2020. She was 76. Teri loved living in South Lake Tahoe. She was active in the Democratic Party, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, Christmas Cheer, the Drugstore Project, helping hikers on the Pacific Rim Trail, the AARP tax preparation, and many other endeavors. Teri was also a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and The Women of the Moose. Her neighbors described her as a loving and generous person.

New president at helm of Sierra Nevada University in Incline Village

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - After an extensive search, Sierra Nevada University has secured a new president on August 31, 2020. Dr. Robert M. Valli, an alumnus of UC Berkeley, Stanford, and Cambridge universities, accepted the position at SNU Tahoe, replacing Dr. Ed Zschau who had been the interim president.

Most traffic-interfering work will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 due to the Labor Day holiday.

Placer County off of state's COVID-19 monitoring list

Placer County fell off the state's County Data Monitoring List for COVID-19, with the rate of new positive cases in the county now dipping below that state monitoring metric.

If Placer County remains off the list for at least 14 days, K-12 schools could potentially reopen for in-person instruction. However, no other businesses would be allowed to modify their operations until the state modifies the state order.

South Tahoe High Valedictorian headed to Stanford; Salutatorian to UCLA

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Even though the end of the school year is taking on a new appearance, the academic successes of the students at South Tahoe High School (STHS) are still being celebrated.

Nancy Garcia Corea is the valedictorian for the Class os 2020 at STHS. She carries a 4.6154 GPA and is headed off the Stanford University when school begins in the fall. Nancy will be studying sociology and wants to go to law school with the goal of becoming a defense attorney.

Fifteen confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Health & Human Services has announced three new positive cases of COVID-19 in the county, bringing the total to 15. The County does no update figures on weekends so the three new cases are since Friday.

As of March 30, 2020, the virus has been detected on both the West Slope and South Lake Tahoe.

To date, 565 tests have been given with 450 coming back as negative and just over 100 are still pending.

Local teen scholar invited to Delegation for Diplomacy in South Africa

Local teen and Lake Tahoe Community College student Laney Terrell has been invited by the International Scholar Laureate Program to join a delegation on International Relations & Diplomacy that will be traveling to South Africa in spring 2020.

"I am so excited for this opportunity to see how other democracies work and represent my Hometown," Terrell said.

Services set for slain El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy Ishmael

PLACERVILLE, Calif. - Funeral services for El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brian Ishmael will be held on Tuesday, November 5, at 10:00 a.m. at Bayside Church Adventure, located at 6401 Stanford Ranch Road in Roseville, CA.

Funerals for law enforcement who died in the line of duty are very large, with people coming from across the country and the world. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) expects thousands of people to attend.

"Elevating Humanity" theme of 4th annual TEDx South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Elevating Humanity is the theme of the 4th annual TEDx South Lake Tahoe at the Lake Tahoe Community College's Duke Theatre on Saturday, October 19, 2019.

Six South Lake Tahoe residents part of record 617 graduating class at WNC

Western Nevada College celebrated a record 617 graduates during its commencement ceremony earlier today at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Carson City. The 2019 graduating class will receive 651 degrees and certificates of achievement.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak and Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford addressed WNC’s graduating class during its commencement ceremony.

South Lake Tahoe teen headed to intensive law and trial program at Stanford

A 17-year-old high school senior from South Lake Tahoe is headed to Stanford University Law School this summer for an intensive 10-day long session where she will step from the classroom to the courtroom.

Laney Terrell currently attends Visions in Education Charter School and is due to graduate this summer, a full year ahead of schedule. She is also taking classes at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Cal-Tahoe JPA moves towards new 10-year contract with County

Fundraising site opens after former Mayor Judy Brown passes away

Judy Brown, a longtime South Lake Tahoe resident, former mayor, Planning Commission chair, local business owner, wife, mother, grandmother and friend died on December 8, 2018 at Renown Hospital in Reno. She was 72 years old.

More details for family, friends and colleagues will be coming from the family but in the meantime they have opened a fundraising campaign to assist Judy's husband Alan Brown with immediate bills left after Judy's medical issues this year.

Stanford professor at Tahoe: There is a way to stop global warming,

Keynote speaker and Stanford University professor of earth system science Dr. Noah Diffenbaugh presented his latest findings on the connections between the planet’s global warming and extreme weather events today at Operation Sierra Storm, a national weather conference held annual on the South Shore.

"It’s been an extreme year in California, and not only the rest of the U.S. but other parts of the world," said Diffenbaugh. "The warming we are seeing is not consistent with natural forcing alone.”

South Tahoe High runner headed to St. Mary's College

It all started when she joined her mom on Saturday runs while in elementary school. By third grade she was hooked and by fifth grade she found she loved to compete in track meets. In middle school she loved the "Pumpkin Runs" and through high school she consistently made it regional and state meets.

Today, South Tahoe High Senior Ally Sullivan signed a letter of intent to attend St. Mary's College to run on their Division 1 track team. Joined by parents Dan and Deni Sullivan, and brothers Josh and Matt, Ally signed in front of coaches and friends.

TEDx South Lake Tahoe speaker lineup announced

After a popular, and sold out, inaugural event in 2016, TEDx South Lake Tahoe is coming back and promises to be bigger and better.

The TEDx license only allowed 100 attendees at The Loft during its first year, but after a trip the New York and a TEDx main event, local organizers were able to qualify South Lake Tahoe for a larger audience in 2017.
