Gavin Newsom released enhanced school health guidance developed by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that includes more prescriptive considerations for opening and operating schools. From the onset of this pandemic, the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE), and the 15 school districts we serve, have emphasized the need to utilize state and local health guidance available in order to prioritize student and staff health and safety.
Class of 2020 graduation via ski lift at Sierra-at-Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/20/2020 - 4:43pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a perfect day, at a perfect location, at a perfect celebration to wrap up what wasn't such a perfect senior year of high school.
On Friday afternoon, one by one, the South Tahoe and Mt. Tallac High School seniors stepped out of their decorated cars amidst cheering from teachers and staff. They sent the students onto the red carpet, down the stairs to more cheering, and dancing, and more red carpet, as they made their way onto a ski lift at Sierra-at-Tahoe.
South Lake Tahoe and all other El Dorado County schools to close starting Monday
Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/14/2020 - 1:28pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All schools in Lake Tahoe Unified School District and the rest of El Dorado County will be closing for at least a week, starting Monday, March 16, 2020.
The decision was made for the safety and wellness of students, families, and school personnel due to the current threat of the world-wide coronavirus COVID-19. There are currently no confirmed cases of the virus in El Dorado County.
EDC school leaders educate Gov. Newsom on PSPS impacts

Gov. Newsom and Superintendent Thurmond met with El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ed Manansala, Buckeye Union School District (BUSD) Superintendent Dr. David Roth, and several BUSD officials to hear first-hand about the challenges that school officials encounter when making decisions regarding school closures.
South Lake Tahoe Juvenile Treatment Center youth embrace horses
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/23/2019 - 7:40pmIt was a beautiful September day in South Lake Tahoe, as students, who have encountered challenges and temporarily reside at the South Lake Tahoe Juvenile Treatment Center (SLTJTC), received an extraordinary experience from dedicated volunteers and the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. The El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) administers SLTJTC’s academic program and partnered with El Dorado County Probation to provide this day of learning to teach students about the animals, potential careers and social skills.
Lake Tahoe Unified School District starts process of hiring new superintendent
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/14/2019 - 6:45pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Board of Trustees from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) heard a presentation Tuesday about searching for the next superintendent.
LTUSD Superintendent Dr. James Tarwater submitted his resignation on June 21 after serving the South Lake Tahoe community since 2005. He gave the Board a one year notice, making his last day in June 2020.

El Dorado County's newly-elected officials sworn in

El Dorado County Superior Court Presiding Judge Suzanne N. Kingsbury administered the oath.
Board of Supervisors who took the oath of office were Lori Parlin, who was elected to represent District 4, and Sue Novasel, who was re-elected to represent District 5. It was a historic moment since, for the first time in El Dorado County the majority of the Board of Supervisors is comprised of women
El Dorado County foster youth receive gift of laptops

The laptops were given to the youth during a small gathering at the El Dorado County Office of Education in Placerville.

The following is the updated ballot count as of 4:49 p.m. Friday, June 8. The department will release updates next week as well.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 06/03/2018 - 10:07pmThe California primary is on Tuesday, June 5, and a lot of decisions are facing voters in South Lake Tahoe both at the county and district level, as well as at the state level.
California changed their primary system ten years ago for the top offices and now it is the two candidates with the most votes on Tuesday that will head to the November elections, no matter which party they belong to. Prior to this system it would be the top democrat and top republican that would face off.
Four potential candidates so far for El Dorado County Supervisor 5th District

So far, for the El Dorado County Supervisor representing Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, Tahoma and Pollock Pines (District 5) four candidates have taken out papers.
Current Supervisor Sue Novasel, local businessman Ken Curtzwiler, former Supervisor Norma Santiago, and transportation technology and land use expert Jeffrey Spencer have all taken out papers during the filing period which began February 12.

New superintendent selected for El Dorado County Schools
Submitted by paula on Wed, 01/06/2016 - 6:42pmThe El Dorado County Board of Education has promoted one of its own to the top job, one that has been vacant since the November, 2015 resignation of Jeremy Meyers.
Dr. Ed Manansala became the new superintendent Tuesday, moving up from his position as Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services, one he'd held since June of 2013.
El Dorado County schools chief apologizes for DUI
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/25/2015 - 9:41pmEl Dorado County Superintendent of Schools Jeremy Meyers was booked and released from El Dorado County Jail on Saturday, a condition of his sentencing for driving under the influence in June.
Meyers’ attorney, Paul Zappettini, said Meyers was cited June 9 for driving under the influence of alcohol. He appeared in court Aug. 10 and received a five-day alternative sentence, which was served as house arrest, Zappettini said. He also was fined and faces suspension of his driver’s license. As a condition of his sentence, Meyers also was required to be booked at the El Dorado County jail.
