South Lake Tahoe School Named Distinguished School; One of 424 in State

The Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School (LTESM) was selected as a 2014 California Distinguished School, an award given to just 5% of the state's schools.

“We are very proud of our programs and we are excited to be recognized as one of the top elementary schools in the state," said LTESM Principal Joel Dameral. "Our students, teachers and parents have worked hard to earn this Distinguished School recognition.”

The award highlights exemplary schools that use innovative approaches to improving academic achievement for all students, regardless of their background, condition or circumstances. State Superintendent of Schools Tom Torkelson announced the winning schools, 10 of which are in El Dorado County.

"I applaud these strong, thriving schools that are making such impressive strides in preparing their students for continued success," Torlakson said. "This award is well-deserved by these school communities for their enduring dedication to high standards, hard work, and unwavering support."
