Now is the time to toot their horn as the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Achievement Awards nomination period has opened. Each year the Lake Tahoe Bike Coalition honors those who have helped the bicycling community around the lake have a safer, better ride.
Nominations must be submitted by October 15, 2017.
TRPA, Keep Tahoe Blue and area schools log big miles during Tahoe Bike Challenge
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/27/2017 - 8:14amStaff with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the League to Save Lake Tahoe (Keep Tahoe Blue) took the top prizes in the 2017 Tahoe Bike Challenge, while hundreds of Tahoe youth rode in increasingly large bike-to-school events.
Each year, for the first two weeks of June, hundreds of Tahoe residents and visitors participate in the Tahoe Bike Challenge. In teams or as individuals, participants join a friendly competition to see who can replace the most car trips with trips by bicycle.
Students learn bike safety and skills at South Lake Tahoe Middle School
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/10/2017 - 8:08pmLocal bicycling advocates spent Friday at South Tahoe Middle School, teaching students about bike safety, bike skills and how to do repairs on bikes.
As part of the 12th annual Tahoe Bike Challenge, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the Lake Tahoe Bike Coalition and the Community Mobility Group put the students through a series of stations learning how to fit helmets correctly, how to do hand signals, a skills rodeo, the parts of a bike and how to fix a flat and do other repairs and an obstacle course.

Then we’ll get together at the League to Save Lake Tahoe office for a free lunch and celebration. All ages are welcome and all supplies will be provided.
We encourage volunteers to ride their bike, which also makes you eligible to enter a free raffle for a chance to win prizes!

Tahoe Bike Challenge kicks off with party and historical bike ride
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/01/2016 - 9:57pmThe 11th annual Lake Tahoe Bike Challenge was officially kicked off with a ceremony at Lakeview Commons Wednesday afternoon. A small crowd gathered for what was the second kick-off party which culminated in a group bike ride.
Proclamations were read by both El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel and South Lake Tahoe Mayor Pro Tem Austin Sass, both celebrating alternative modes of transportation on the South Shore.
Leave No Trace events in South Lake Tahoe to raise awareness
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/31/2016 - 2:56pmThe Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and its Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers team are partnering with the Lake Tahoe Outreach Committee and other Lake Tahoe organizations to host community events and educational activities June 6-13. As visitors flock to the outdoor recreation wonderland that is Lake Tahoe the trails, beaches and forests are experiencing an increase in use and the associated impacts of trash, trail erosion and shoreline degradation.
Community bike path cleanup scheduled for June 11

Volunteers can meet at one of four locations throughout South Tahoe to pick up litter from the areas around our bike paths. Then we’ll get together at the League to Save Lake Tahoe office located at 2608 Lake Tahoe Boulevard for a free lunch, raffle and celebration after 12:00 p.m. All ages are welcome and all supplies will be provided.
We encourage volunteers to ride their bike, which also makes you eligible to enter a free raffle for a chance to win a prize.
Volunteers help make Celebrity Golf a great event
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/29/2015 - 11:11pmThe celebrities have been gone from South Lake Tahoe for over a week, back to their jobs and families. While they were the attraction of the American Century Golf Championship, the true stars were the volunteers who made it all happen.
Volunteers helped in many aspects. Soroptimists had their food tents and spent every day serving sandwiches, drinks, chips and snacks.
The Lake Tahoe Bike Coalition had a group out each day, manning the bike valet for the 200 cyclists that used their free services.
