Over 100 members of the South Lake Tahoe community attended the 3rd Annual Tahoe Chamber Community breakfast on Tuesday where they shared their visions of what was needed for success.

Those attending broke up into group discussions on a few topics including what they felt small businesses in the area need in order to be better prepared. Since the event was put on the by chamber, there was also discussion was about what the TahoeChamber.org could provide to improve their member's experiences.

Since there is a lack of snow through the Sierra Nevada, visitors and locals in the Lake Tahoe basin are enjoying things that are normally reserved for the summer months.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce is holding their annual Winter Wine Walk BAHM on Thursday, December 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the Shops at Heavenly Village.

The walk starts at the Marriott Grand Residence where participants will receive a passport with a list of all businesses participating, a wristband, wine glass and raffle tickets. Participating businesses will then stamp the passport and pour a taste of El Dorado County wines as well as showcasing their store. Free ice skating voucher good for the whole evening.

A new Board of Directors was elected at the TahoeChamber ’s October 15 board meeting. The board reflects the local business community in that it is comprised of small businesses, professionals, healthcare, gaming and resort representatives. Their diverse business expertise partnered with their enthusiasm ensures that our membership is well served.

If you’re looking for business assistance at an affordable rate, this is the workshop series for you. Mann, Urrutia, Nelson, CPAs & Associates (MUN CPAs), will present this three-part workshop series for business owners. The workshops will take place October 23, October 30, and November 6, at 10am in the TahoeChamber Conference Room.

Celebrate the changing of the seasons at TahoeChamber’s next Business After Hours Mixer (BAHM!) next Thursday, October 17. Lake Tahoe organizations whose collaborative work over the past 15 years has been a driving force for advancing Lake Tahoe restoration efforts applauded congressional leaders Thursday for introducing a $415 million reauthorization of the federal Lake Tahoe Restoration Act.

The South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce will hold a business mixer on Thursday, March 21. Borges Chiropractic and Tahoe Valley Pharmacy will host the event, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Tahoe Valley Pharmacy center, 2074 Lake Tahoe Blvd. (across from Staples near the “Y”).

The event is open to chamber members as well as the public and is free.

There will be food and prizes, including a pair of sunglasses valued at $160 donated by Lake Tahoe Eye Care. Other sponsors for donations include Tahoe Valley Pharmacy, Borges Chiropractic and Ross Groelz, DDS.

Alpenglow Sports has teamed up with Tahoe Cross Country to present the first-ever Lake Tahoe Nordic Festival Friday, February 8 through Sunday, February 10. All events are free, open to the public and take place at Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area in Tahoe City, California. A full schedule of events is available at www.tahoenordicfestival.com.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council made appointments to various Boards and Commissions for 2013 at Tuesday's meeting. Mayor Tom Davis will serve on the following boards: California Tahoe Conservancy, City Selection Committee, TahoeChamber.org, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, and South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Pro Tem Hal Cole will serve on El Dorado County LAFCO, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Abandoned Vehicle Abatement JPA, and South Tahoe Redevelopment Successor Agency boards.

Simply put, the board of the Tahoe Chamber supported the Regional Plan Update because the plan is comprised of reasonable compromises that will finally bring together what we've long known are interconnected: the lake, the economy and our communities. The business community is proud to have worked with environmental groups, local residents and other stakeholders to find common ground on issues that affect our very survival.

UPDATED: The 5th annual Tahoe Chamber Blue Ribbons Awards were held Thursday night, recognizing businesses, individual and organizations for their outstanding service and contribution to the South Shore Lake Tahoe community. The awards presentation recognized all businesses nominated and announce the winners of the eight separate categories.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 5th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards. After five years, this award program has grown from three key awards to eight. More than 3,100 volunteers are needed to successfully execute the first full-distance IRONMAN® event in California since 2001 - IRONMAN Lake Tahoe, which is scheduled for September 22, 2013.

World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), owner and operator of the IRONMAN Series, will host an IRONMAN Lake Tahoe Volunteer Meeting Monday, September 17, 7 p.m., at the North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 North Lake Boulevard, Kings Beach, California.

Of the 3,100 volunteers needed to provide behind-the-scene logistics and ground execution, 100 will serve as captains to ensure a safe and fun event.

And they're off. Two incumbents — Hal Cole and Bruce Grego — will face three and possibly four challengers in the race for two seats on the South Lake Tahoe City Council in November.

The filing period ended at 5 p.m. Friday. If one of the incumbents had not filed, the filing period would have been extended by five days.

In May, local community member Sean Riley suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a succession of blackouts and falls. A Beach Bash Benefit is being held to help offset Sean’s medical expenses on Wednesday, August 15, 5-8 p.m., at Zephyr Cove Resort.
Sean is an off-road tour guide for Lake Tahoe Adventures and his wife, Georgette, works for the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and Tahoe Chamber. Sean has been hospitalized since May and came home this week and is now under 24-hour care. He is doing better, but does have some issues with comprehension and memory as a result of the injury, and has a long road to recovery requiring extensive therapy, home supervision and care.

Golden Bear Events would like to thank the community of South Lake Tahoe for the success of the Inaugural Community Wide 4th of July Parade and Celebration. Parade participants and vendors came from primarily Meyers, Stateline, and South Lake Tahoe. North Lake Tahoe announced Wednesday that the first full-distance IRONMAN® event in California since 2001, IRONMAN Lake Tahoe, sold out its general entries in less than a day. A limited number of IRONMAN Foundation spots are still available. The race is September 22, 2013.
