Recommendations Regarding 'Economic Revitalization' for South Shore Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 11/06/2012 - 5:26pmAfter attending the State of the South Shore Economy Public Forum held on October 23rd, 2012 I was inspired to draft a response to the questions about economic revitalization that were asked at the meeting. I feel like our group had many salient ideas that were not properly represented. Also, I have noticed that people are quick to offer ideas like “reduce unemployment”, “beautify the city”, and “improve recreation”, but they are typically unable to offer suggestions on how to make those ideas a reality.

Through the Home at Last™ Access program, qualified home buyers receive a generous 4 percent down payment grant, which does not have to be paid back. Now, the program is offering even lower mortgage interest rates on a conventional, 30-year fixed rate loan. Through participating lenders, the interest rates on FHA, VA or USDA-RD home mortgages have dropped from 3.75 percent to the current rate of 3.5 percent, which is an historic low.

“Hundreds of residents have contacted the county to voice their frustration about the fire tax,” said Supervisor John Knight. “The Board of Supervisors can’t sit idly by while the state is running a legalized extortion scheme on rural residents.”

Anti-tax group sues to end state fire fee, wants refunds

The group alleges in Sacramento Superior Court that the fee, which the state began collecting in August, amounts to a tax that was illegally approved without the necessary two-thirds majority of lawmakers.

Nevada looks to new sources of funding for construction projects as property tax revenues fall

The state Public Works Board heard the disappointing news today as it began a two-day review of projects being sought by state agencies ranging from the Department of Corrections to Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
