One man dies in Lake Tahoe boating accident
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/10/2020 - 6:07pmUPDATE 8/11/20: A 28-year-old man from Napa, California has been identified as the person who died in a tragic boat incident off shore from South Lake Tahoe on Monday. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) Marine unit responded along with South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District and the U.S. Coast Guard.
When the call came in around 3:40 p.m., two men were in the water and a third was inside a rental boat. One of the men, David Castorena, had a major injury to his leg and he as not wearing a personal floatation device, or PFD.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/18/2020 - 10:43amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two 14-year-old boys from South Lake Tahoe were arrested on Tuesday on several charges after attacking a man on the beach after a barrage of offensive words yelled at people on the beach.
At 4:25 p.m. on June 16, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) were called to what is known as the Timber Cove Marina and Beach on a report of an assault.
Man rescued from Lake Tahoe after cries for help heard from shore

The 36-year-old man from Richmond, California had been kayaking about 400-500 yards offshore when his kayak starting taking on water through a hole.

Getting around South Lake Tahoe by water taxi

There are no stop signs or stop lights, it's worry free, no traffic, no parking madness, just you and the crystal blue water underneath your water taxi as it glides from marina to marina at a steady 10 knots.
On Monday I boarded the South Shore Water Shuttle at Lakeside Marina for a round trip to all four of its regular stops, Timber Cove Marina, Camp Richardson Resort & Marina and Round Hill Pines Beach Resort & Marina, and then back to Lakeside.

Volunteers hit Lake Tahoe beaches to clean up after the 4th of July
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/05/2017 - 12:27pm5:00 p.m. update: The beach cleanups for July 5 have concluded, and according to the League to Save Lake Tahoe, 1,678.25 pounds were picked up by their 321 volunteers at 5.64 miles of beaches. And that to the 4,000 pounds collected at El Dorado area beaches and there was 2.84 tons of trash picked up in one day.

As the sun came up over Lake Tahoe the day after the July 4 celebrations, scores of volunteers were headed to the beaches to help clean up the trash left behind on local beaches.
Small fire and jet ski accident keeping fire and police busy in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/01/2017 - 5:58pmThe long 4th of July holiday weekend in South Lake Tahoe got off to a busy start Saturday with a water rescue and fire.
A boater saw smoke coming from the hillside near Heavenly, called it in from their location off the Ski Run Marina at 1:29 p.m. and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Police combed the streets in the area to try and locate the source. The fire was spotted on U.S. Forest Service land off Keller Road in between Ruby Way and Wildwood Ave.
Kayaker dies in water offshore of South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/19/2016 - 7:00pm1:30 p.m. 7/20/16 update: The man who died while kayaking in Lake Tahoe on Tuesday has been identified as 43-year-old Paul Anthony Aguirre of Rio Linda, Calif. Aguirre was in South Lake Tahoe with his family, his fiancée, and his fiancée's family.
Aguirre had been paddling in a privately owned kayak in the area of El Dorado Beach when family members lost sight of him and a call went out for help at 4:49 p.m.
The victim was located at the water’s surface, approximately 300 yards off of the shoreline of El Dorado Beach, where the depth was approximately 10 feet.
Missing Lake Tahoe paddle boarder found in Missouri
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/18/2015 - 12:18pmThe man who gained national attention when he went missing from his paddle board in South Lake Tahoe has turned up in Missouri.
South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) investigators had been working on the case since he disappeared on Wednesday, not knowing if he were dead or alive. The floating paddleboard with GoPro camera was found floating about 1/2 mile off shore by the Timber Cove Marina.
Leads coming in on missing person that may help South Lake Tahoe Police
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/17/2015 - 7:28pmSeveral internet leads have come into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department that may help them identify the man who came up missing on August 12 after renting a stand up paddle board.
The man rented a paddle board at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. A boater found the board floating in water about 20 feet deep about 1/2 mile off shore near the Timber Cove Marina. A later search of the area found a paddle, but no other signs as to where the person may gone, if he drowned, or who he is.

Long time local fights for public access at Connelly Beach
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/17/2014 - 10:59pmJanet McDougall used the public comment portion of a recent South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting to speak of her concern that people would lose access to Connelly Beach. Council members took interest and the subject is on Tuesday's Council agenda.
McDougall, a resident of South Lake Tahoe since 1963 and a graduate of South Tahoe High in 1975, spent 17 years working in the city attorney's office in town. She said that during that time she saw a growing amount of beaches becoming unavailable to the public.
Timber Cove accident victim paralyzed from waist down
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/08/2014 - 6:21pmOn August 1, a 21 year old woman broke her neck after diving into Lake Tahoe near the Timber Cove Marina. The woman, Maridee McFarlane, spent 10 days at Renown Medical Center in Reno before being transferred to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Sacramento, McFarlane is currently rehabilitating at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Department responds to two small fires and diving accident
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/06/2014 - 9:24pmTwo fires were quickly extinguished by the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department in the early hours on Sunday.
In the first incident, a fire was reported off Echo Road behind the power substation near the Stateline Raley's. When firefighters arrived at about 12:20 a.m., they found five foot flames coming from what was later determined to be an illegal campfire at a transient person's camp. They quickly cut a line around the fire and contained it to a 10 foot square.
