Cohen has served as the interim President & Chief Operating Officer at the resort since April, 2018, and will move into the permanent position effective immediately.
Ferguson Fire grows to 43,299 acres, still sending some smoke into Lake Tahoe Basin
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/26/2018 - 2:41pmSome smoke from the Fergason Fire burning west of Yosemite is still making its way into the Lake Tahoe Basin Thursday, and more of the same hazy conditions are expected Friday.
The fire grew by 1,723 acres overnight to a total of 43,299 acres and firefighters have been able to get a line around 27 percent of the fire. 3,686 personnel are currently engaged on the fire which includes 241 engines, 47 water tenders, 18 helicopters, 94 crews, and 63 dozers. South Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Fire and North Tahoe Fire all have sent crews to help in the efforts.
Deep snow delays opening of Ebbetts Pass and Sonora Pass

It is the first time first time in at least the last ten years Sonora Pass (SR-108) will not be open by the Memorial Day weekend. For the second time in the same period, Ebbetts Pass (SR-4) is not opening before a weekend that usually brings many people into the higher elevations.
Monitor Pass opens with almost 20 feet of snow still along roadway

Monitor Pass/State Route 89 opened Monday afternoon, while District 10 maintenance crews continue to clear Sonora Pass/SR-108 and Ebbetts Pass/SR-4. Yosemite National Park handles the clearing of Tioga Pass/SR-120.
After the wettest winter in over 100 years there are still some areas of upper passes with 20 feet of snow.
Crews clearing seasonally closed Sierra passes, some opening dates projected
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/16/2017 - 10:35amSnow, rocks, boulders, trees and debris are being cleared from roads through the Sierra Nevada that have been closed all winter. Caltrans crews from Districts 9 and 10 are plowing through several feet of snow in some area. While some roads will be opening soon, many have a lot of work to be done before they can open to traffic.
Crews will inspect the road, bridges, culverts to make sure the road is safe for the public before reopening. They will also replace signs that tumbled during the winter.
Graniteman Challenge celebrates sixth grueling year in Mono County

The Graniteman Challenge, sponsored by the High Sierra Triathlon Club, is a unique three-day combination of the Granite to Granite Swim, a 2.4-mile swim in June Lake on Friday, September 11, the Mammoth Gran Fondo, a 102-mile bike ride on Saturday, September 12 and the Tioga Pass Run, a 12.4-mile run up Tioga Pass on Sunday, September 13.
Walker Fire burns 3,715 acres and is now 35% contained

The Walker Fire has now burned 3,715 acres and is now 35% contained. It has been determined that the fire is human caused and is under investigation.
There are 484 firefighters working on the fire along with 4 helicopters, 2 Air tankers, 34 Engines, 10 Crews, 6 Water Tenders, and 4 Dozers.
235 structures remain threatened but none have burned so far.
Pending storm prompts closure of Tioga Pass
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/13/2015 - 12:45pmThe Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road in Yosemite National Park will temporarily close at 8:00 P.M. tonight, May 13, 2015. This is due to a significant storm predicted for the area that will potentially produce several inches of new snow at higher elevations.
Both roads will remain temporarily closed until conditions permit safe travel. There is no estimated time for the roads to reopen.

Sierra passes opening for season
Submitted by paula on Wed, 04/22/2015 - 11:32pmState Route 108 over Sonora Pass has opened in time for the opening of trout fishing season in the Eastern Sierra on Saturday, April 25 according to Caltrans.
Also opening is State Route 120 (west) Mono County - Tioga Pass Road, to the East Yosemite Park Entrance Gate. State Route 120 is closed beyond this point. Users can access State Route 120 for recreational activities from the junction of US 395 at Lee Vining up to the park entrance closure gate.
State Route 168 (west) Inyo County – Access to Sabrina Lake is also now open.
Update: Over 3,500 acres burned in Yosemite fire
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/28/2014 - 9:33am7/29/14 11:30 p.m. update: The El Portal Fire burning near Yosemite is now 34% contained. Firefighters gained good ground on all sides of the fire except for the northern portion which has caused concern for fire officials. Steep, rugged terrain continues to challenge the efforts of firefighters but progress is being made. The weather forecast calls for continued high temperatures reaching as high as 100 degrees near El Portal.
At this point in time 3,545 acres have burned. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

But this year is the winter that never started. No snow at all in December. Look up at the hills, and you might mistake it for September.
