The winter that never started

Last year was the winter that never stopped, with snow through Memorial Day weekend and flakes into the first few days of June. But this year is the winter that never started. No snow at all in December. Look up at the hills, and you might mistake it for September.

A neighbor said that on New Years Day he drove over Tioga Pass into Yosemite National Park. The pass was completely free of snow. In fact, this is now the all-time record latest time the pass has ever been open. Last year the pass closed in November and didn't open until late June, and there was still three feet of snow on the ground then.

Watch the video below and you can see Tioga Pass completely free of snow in January.

And while our resorts have gone without, there's still snow being made and plenty of skiing and boarding available if you have your mind set on it. Heavenly Mountain Resort, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Kirkwood and Northstar are running chairs. People are having fun and are making do with less. While Mother Nature may be fickle right now, she doesn't own the sole rights to having a good time outdoors. As it is said in Tahoe among the good-spirited ones: Itsallgood.
