Park Tahoe paid parking pilot program starts at East Shore Trail
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/22/2020 - 9:25amINCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - When the three parking lots with 90 spaces were created last year in Incline Village for the popular East Shore Trail, they were free but all were told paid parking was coming in the near future.
That time has now come.
Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) has unveiled the Park Tahoe pilot program at the trailhead north of Ponderosa Rand Road. The lots were created to expand off-highway parking options along the high traffic area of SR28 between Incline Village and Sand Harbor State Park.

The word "resource" gives one an insight into their position - a resource for the students, and not only at school. A resource for the parents. A resource for the school district. A resource for the school.
And the job doesn't end there.

NDOT adding six "no parking" signs along SR28 near Incline Village
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/13/2020 - 2:13pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Roadside parking along SR28 south of Incline Village has been problematic for years. Several "no parking" areas have been created over several miles to keep cars off the road to improve safety.
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced Monday they will add "no parking" signs to enhance traffic safety on a section of State Route 28 in southeastern Incline Village.
Beginning July 13, NDOT will add six new “no parking” signs on the west, lakeside of State Route 28, extending from southern Lakeshore Boulevard to approximately 300 feet south.

The recommended evacuations for the Bodie Flats and Pineview areas have been lifted. Only residents are allowed to these areas. Please drive safely, watch for emergency vehicles, and be ready for possible future instructions in an ever-changing situation.
Multiple local, state, and federal agencies continue to work on containing the fire using dozers, hand crews, and aircraft.

Investigation leads to return of custom bar top to brewery in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/02/2020 - 3:16pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Finding a truck with stolen license plates on Tuesday has led to the recovery of a custom made bar top from a South Lake Tahoe brewery.
On June 30, 2020, deputies from El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) got an LPR (License Plate Reader) hit on a truck in Meyers.
The truck was traveling west on US50 and deputies found the truck near Ice House Road and attempted a traffic stop. The driver turned onto a rocky dirt road, stopped by the American River and took off on foot.
Man wanted by US Marshals arrested in South Lake Tahoe after pursuit
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/01/2020 - 9:18pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) were assisting the U.S. Marshals office in locating a wanted felon who was thought to be in the South Lake Tahoe area.
Matthew Core, a 38-year-old man from the Sacramento area had been in federal custody in the Sacramento jail when he was released due to COVID-19, then went on the run according to SLTPD Detective Sgt. Travis Cabral.
Temporary public access, traffic changes at the Upper Truckee Marsh
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/30/2020 - 6:33pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Starting in July public access will be limited or restricted in portions of the Upper Truckee Marsh to protect the public during construction of the new river and marsh restoration project.
The California Tahoe Conservancy is restoring more than 250 acres of the marsh ecosystem to enhance wildlife habitat, improve water quality entering Lake Tahoe, and create an accessible-to-all trail to Lake Tahoe. Restoration activities will continue into fall 2022.
Fireworks banned in all Lake Tahoe area counties

They are illegal around the lake and in neighboring counties. A mild winter and a large amount of forest fuels put the area at a high risk of fire this summer, and fireworks could be devastating.
Without the official fireworks shows at the north and south ends of the lake, many fear people will resort to the fireworks bought at roadside stands and Indian reservations. While those are legal in the areas they are sold, they are not legal at Lake Tahoe.

Masks or face coverings required at Reno-Tahoe International Airport

Due to the change, signage describing the new rules is in place and highly visible.
Lime scooters return to South Lake Tahoe July 1

With a reduced season the new charge of $75 per device was not making sense according to the company.

South Lake Tahoe teen arrested after allegedly stealing truck
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/20/2020 - 3:53pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An 18-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested on Saturday, June 20 after allegedly stealing a truck from outside a home near the Y.
The 2008 Toyota Tacoma was parked overnight and when the owners woke up they say the truck was missing. According to their neighbor's security camera, the truck was taken at 3:30 a.m.

Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/10/2020 - 9:54amDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The 110th annual Carson Valley Days Festival has been canceled but the parade is still happening on Saturday, June 13 starting at 9:00 a.m. Due to health concerns with COVID-19, the popular carnival and all other events were canceled but the Douglas County Commissioners granted approval for the annual parade.
One arrested on multiple charges after head-on collision in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/08/2020 - 5:45pm6/9/20 update: A 23-year-old man from Garden Valley, California has been arrested on multiple charges after being involved in a two-car Collison on US50 near Skyland at Lake Tahoe on June 8.
At approximately 6:05 p.m, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a serious injury crash involving a Honda Civic and Toyota Tacoma.
The crash closed both the eastbound and westbound travel lanes of the highway for several hours as emergency crews aided the victims, transported the two drivers to the hospital via helicopter, and cleared the scene.

The only item on the agenda is discussion and possible action on expanding Stage 2 to include all businesses and industries identified in Stage 3 of Governor Newsom's Resiliency Roadmap.
NDOT to close Centerville Lane for Douglas County resurfacing project

Centerville Lane will be resurfaced between U.S. 395 and State Route 88. Various road and lane closures will be in place Mondays through Thursdays from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily in the following phases beginning June 8 and ending June 17:
Pair arrested on suspicion of breaking into cars at Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley trailheads
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/26/2020 - 1:59pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two people have been arrested in connection with six vehicle burglaries at trailhead parking areas in Douglas County, four at Lake Tahoe and two in the Carson Valley.
Between May 16 and May 23, 2020, the two suspects, Carolyn Brinkman and Harvis Berry, allegedly broke into cars, stealing cash and credit cards, then using the credit cards immediately at local stores, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).
Neither the name of the stores or trailheads have been disclosed.
Overnight closures of I-80 westbound lanes this week for paving project

Final paving work is scheduled overnight Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Martin Brothers Construction of Sacramento will be repaving westbound lanes of the interstate between Rollins Lake Road and the State Route 174 junction in Colfax; an area known as the Colfax Narrows.

Work underway on Al Tahoe Safety and Mobility Project in South Lake Tahoe

After a restriping/lane change pilot project in 2017 that reconfigured two of the four vehicle travel lanes and added buffered bike lanes on Al Tahoe Blvd., the rest of the project has now begun. The project has been years in the making through the planning, funding, public input, and permitting stages.
Westbound I-80 lanes to close overnight for roadwork

A new bridge over the Truckee River was also created during the first stage of the SR89/Fanny Bridge Revitalization Project which included another roundabout on the west end of Tahoe City on SR89.

Did you feel it? Series of quakes 180 miles away from South Lake Tahoe wake residents
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/15/2020 - 6:28amThe University of Nevada Reno Seismology Lab is reporting a series of earthquakes between the towns of Mina and Tonopah, Nevada early Friday morning, the largest a 6.5 magnitude.
Many people around Lake Tahoe say the 4:00 a.m. earthquake woke them up.
It has been followed by, so far, 15 strong aftershocks measuring 3.1 to 5.4 have occurred. The USGS website has over 15,000 comments in their "Did You Feel It" section from Reno to the San Francisco Bay Area and down to Bakersfield and Las Vegas.
Full closure of US50 over Echo Summit moved to after Labor Day
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/14/2020 - 1:40pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A planned full closure of US50 over Echo Summit for the Sidehill Viaduct Replacement Project has been postponed to after Labor Day, 2020.
Caltrans made the announcement on Thursday that construction has not progressed enough to where the bridgework requiring a full closure could not be completed by June 15.
A full closure of Highway 50 is not permitted between June 15 and Labor Day due to high traffic volumes expected during the peak summer season in South Lake Tahoe.

Full closure of US50 over Echo Summit planned for June

The $14.1 million Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct Replacement Project will replace the bridge with a structure that meets current seismic and safety standards.
Travelers can expect daytime work with one-way reversing traffic now, with around-the-clock one-way traffic control from May 26 until May 31, then full closure from June 1 until about June 14.
Caltrans and its contractor expect work to be completed this year.

Crews from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) installed the new light backplates not only in South Lake Tahoe but across the state to increase the visibility of the signals.

Tahoe Transportation District rolls out fare-free transit

While they already had plans in place for a free system to help eliminate traffic, the rollout is sooner than expected in order to make travel safer in response to COVID-19 by eliminating fare exchanges between drivers and riders.

“We aren’t discouraging public access to the parks, we want our residents to get outside during this crisis,” said Public Works Director Ray Jarvis. “We are going to keep the parks closed to vehicle access though to discourage large gatherings and to continue to encourage people to follow state and federal guidelines.”
South Lake Tahoe second home owners asked to leave under some circumstances

There are no major projects going on in the Lake Tahoe Basin until the building season begins in May. The following is their weekly schedule:
