Electronic equipment and river monitoring devices were damaged or destroyed. Two logs were found to have graffiti sprayed on them, saying "Stop Golf" and "Save the Park."

The previously announced transaction between KSL Capital Partners and JMA Ventures which joins Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows under one operating company has officially closed. This announcement affirms that skiers and riders can access Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows’ 6,000 acres, 44 lifts and over 270 trails on one lift ticket or season pass. The two resorts will be connected by convenient, complimentary shuttles that will provide transportation between the two resorts.

“Since announcing the merger, the Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley joint pass products –the Tahoe Super Pass and Tahoe Super Six, and Squaw Valley’s $50 million Renaissance, the response from our guests has been overwhelmingly positive” said Andy Wirth, Squaw Valley’s president and CEO.“The opportunity to experience these two incredible mountains, each with their own unique spirit and character, through one pass and one ticket has resonated deeply with our guests,” said Wirth. Wirth will take the helm as the president and CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC, the newly formed parent company of both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.

A prescribed forest burn in the Angora fire area caused quite a stir earlier this month after wind gusts of up to 50 mph carried some of the burn slash piles and brush further than what was comfortable for nearby homeowners.
The U.S. Forest Service, however, says that at no point did the prescribed fire, which consisted mostly of slash piles and dead trees, get out of hand and the agency remains both cautious about its undertaking and empathetic to nearby neighbors who rebuilt their homes following the June 2007 Angora fire.

Tahoe Resource Conservation District and South Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition (STEEC) environmental educators have been busy bringing water-based interdisciplinary activities to students at Lake Tahoe elementary school classrooms through Wonders of Water curriculum that began Oct. 24 and continues through Nov. 10.

UPDATED: The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will begin the sale of holiday tree permits on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011. Permits cost $10 each (cash or check only, no credit cards) with a limit of two permits per family, valid for cutting on or before Dec. 25, 2011. Permit holders may choose from a variety of pine, fir or cedar in designated cutting areas and must abide by specific permit conditions for proper and responsible collection.

The Festival of Trees and Lights is occurring from December 3-5 at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa. The festival is fast becoming the event of the season in South Lake Tahoe! The Forest Service will soon begin removing conifers (cone-bearing trees) from meadow, aspen groves and upland forest areas along Scotts Lake Trail, off Big Meadow Trailhead near Luther Pass on Hwy. 89. The project should not affect access to the trail, but the Forest Service is asking that users remain on the trail at all times. A contractor will use crews with chainsaws for the thinning project, which could begin tomorrow.
