Snow Day Monday for South Lake Tahoe students
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/10/2019 - 4:49pmDue to heavy snowfall this weekend, all schools in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District will be closed on Monday, February 11 to allow the district, city, county, and state snow removal crews time to make roadways safe for students and staff to get to and from school.
Both Douglas County schools at Lake Tahoe, Whittell High and Zephyr Cove Elementary, are closed.
Also closed or have late starts:
Camino Union School District
Pollock Pines Elementary School District
Silver Fork School District
'Make America Great Again" hat leads to altercation and arrest of El Dorado County teen
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/27/2018 - 5:00pmA Union Mine High School student was arrested Monday, August 27 after an altercation began on school grounds over a 'Make America Great Again' hat worn by another student.
The arrested student, a minor, began verbally berating the student wearing the hat. He then grabbed the hat off of the other student’s head and threw it to the ground. The teacher told the upset student to leave the classroom.
Threats at El Dorado County high school being investigated
Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/15/2017 - 6:40pm10/16/17 11:20PM - The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) has identified the person who sent the threatening Instagram post. The individual is a resident of Texas and was contacted by local law enforcement in that state. The individual, identified as nineteen year old Justin Boaz of Tyler, Texas, admitted to making the post because he was “bored”.

Two El Dorado County JV football players hospitalized after game
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/29/2015 - 9:00pmUnion Mine High School sophomores Nick Brown and Justin Schwartz had just finished leading their junior varsity football team to a 27-8 win over Foothill High School on Friday night when people noticed something wasn’t quite right.
Then Brown passed out, said El Dorado Union High School District Superintendent Stephen Wehr.
The two were rushed to the emergency care, Brown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and Schwartz to Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center, according to Wehr.
El Dorado County Sheriff: Teen steals grandma's guns, swaps for pot
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/18/2014 - 9:39amEl Dorado County sheriff's investigators say a 14-year-old boy traded his grandmother's guns for marijuana and they don't know who has the firearms now.
The boy, who is from Missouri but staying with his grandmother in Wilton (Sacramento County), took a sledgehammer to her safe, took her two guns inside, and drove off with her car Monday night, according to sheriff's Deputy Chris Stelz.

Military fly-over on West Slope to honor fallen Marine
Submitted by Editor on Sat, 08/18/2012 - 10:15amThere will be a low level fly over of vintage military aircraft in the Green Valley area of El Dorado County on August 19, 2012 at 6:30 PM. The flyover is being conducted to honor our fallen hero Marine Staff Sergeant Skye Mote and his family. The flyover will be in conjunction with Graveside Services.
Staff Sergeant Mote was 27 and a nine-year veteran of the Marine Corps, when he was one of three special operations Marines killed August 10th by an Afghan police officer in Afghanistan's Helmand province.
