Whittell wins again; Headed to State Basketball Tournament
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/21/2015 - 12:31amTwo teams that have been neck and neck in the NIAA Northern Division IV standings all season are both headed to the Nevada State tournament.
Whittell Warriors who have just one loss in the regular season, to Virginia City, will meet their nemisis on Saturday for the Northern Nevada Region title. The Virginia City uckers, who's only loss in the regular season was to Whittell, aims to dethrone the defending state champion Warriors.
The two teams meet at 1:30 p.m. in Spring Creek, NV where the Northern Region tournament has been held since Thursday.

UNR archeologist leads Virginia City hospital excavation team
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 07/18/2012 - 11:12amThe University of Nevada, Reno, in cooperation with the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, has sent a team of archaeologists to excavate the site of one of Nevada’s most important early hospitals. St. Mary Louise Hospital in Virginia City opened in 1876 and served the mining community until the early 20th century.
