Big fish caught at Lake Tahoe

This report is for the week of Dec. 12-18. We want to note a big fish caught by Eric St. Denis of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., pictured above. Eric caught a 28-pound, 9-ounce Mackinaw trout at Lake Tahoe on Dec. 9, at 10:30 a.m. Photos courtesy of Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters.
The Lake Tahoe record for Mackinaw Trout is a 37-pound, 6-ounce (44 inches in length) trophy caught by Robert Aronsen, way back in 1974. To date, only a handful of Macks have been caught that have weighed 30 pounds or more.

Circuit court upholds Lake Tahoe Angora fire analysis
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 09/20/2012 - 3:09pmThe U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed Thursday a district court ruling upholding Lake Tahoe area environmental analysis for the Angora fire area fuels reduction project.
The Angora Restoration Project was designed to protect wildlife habitat as well as reduce long-term wildfire risk to Lake Tahoe area communities. Two environmental groups, Earth Island Institute and Center for Biological Diversity, tried to stop arguing it would harm the black-backed woodpecker.

Tahoe Keys Volunteer Weed Pull

Volunteers will learn how to identify invasive weeds as well as the steps to take to keep them out of the Lake Tahoe Basin and their gardens.

Volunteers invited to tackle Lake Tahoe invasive species
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 07/09/2012 - 12:07pmLake Tahoe Basin residents and visitors are invited to help remove one of Tahoe’s most prolific aquatic invasive weeds, Eurasian watermilfoil, during a community volunteer event at Baldwin Beach on Sunday, July 15.
The project is a partnership of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Preventing the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species is a top priority for all three agencies.

The problem of aquatic weeds is now a lake-wide problem. “I think that what is happening now is that the agencies are realizing that there need to be actions taken to stop these weeds,” says Anderson.
