Local students among 650 graduates of Western Nevada College

Although Western Nevada College has delayed its commencement ceremony to honor its 2020 graduation class because of COVID-19, the college is proud to announce and congratulate its list of graduates.
Following the spring semester 2020, 650 students have graduated with 692 degrees and certificates. Eighteen of those were given to residents around Lake Tahoe.
Amgen Tour of California put on hold in 2020

The Amgen Tour of California race has been put on hiatus for the 2020 racing season according to an announcement Tuesday by AEG, the sports and live entertainment company that produces the race each year. Over the past 14 years, the cycling tour has showcased some of today’s best known and most decorated international cyclists, including numerous World, Olympic and National Champions. South Lake Tahoe has been a host city on both the men's and women's sides of the popular rolling festival.
Lake Tahoe students among 308 on Dean's List at Western Nevada College

Western Nevada College has named 308 students to the Spring 2019 Dean’s List. For consideration to WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Lake Tahoe residents on Western Nevada College Dean's List

Western Nevada College has released the names of their Fall 2018 Dean's List, one of its largest dean’s lists in years. On the list are 373 students, accounting for 31.1 percent of the college’s full-time students.
Also on the list are residents of South Lake Tahoe, Marla Bay, Zephyr Cove and Stateline. To earn the distinction of making WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Graduation for 13 new members of Douglas County Search and Rescue

New members were added to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team this week after completing a 48-hour academy where they were certified as a Nevada Wilderness Search and Rescue Technician (NWSRT), a nationally recognized credential.
The graduation for the 13 community members was held on April 17, 2018 in Minden, Nev.
Douglas County Sheriff's Explorers take top honors at competition

The Douglas County Sheriff's Explorers cam home from the Central Valley Law Enforcement Explorer Competition with 15 trophies, including the top award, 1st place overall, out-preforming the Hanford Police Department who have been the long standing first place holders.
There were 19 events at the competition which was held in Tulare, California April 6-7, 2018. The Douglas County team was up against 12 posts from the Central Valley area.

Bread and Broth is very fortunate to have the support of the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club and have them working side-by-side with our B&B Volunteers to help feed many of our neighbors who struggle with hunger. The Rotary Club has partnered with B&B to host five ‘Adopt A Days of Nourishment’ with their third sponsorship occurring on Monday, December 4.
DCSO Explorers bring home 13 trophies from competition

Nine members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Explorer Post #2105
gave an outstanding performance this past weekend during the Central Coast Law Enforcement Exploring Competition in Tulare, Calif. They competed against 21 other police, sheriff and highway patrol posts in 19 different scenarios including felony car stops, shooting skills, written exams, oral interviews, suspicious persons and physical agility.
DCSO Explorers won 13 trophies including second place overall for the entire competition.
James Raymond (Routson) Wiggins

Beloved father and friend to many, James Raymond (Routson) Wiggins, “Jimmy Ray”, passed away at age 69 on December 20th, 2016.
Jim loved life and all that it had to offer. He was passionate about spending time at the park with his grandson, and grand-dogs, skiing in Lake Tahoe and taking long rides with his friends and fellow members of the Tahoe Blue Riders Motorcycle Group.
He leaves behind his most proud accomplishments, his children, Matt, Shannon and his grandson, Benjamin, and three grand-dogs, Wrigley, Trooper and Leia.
Douglas County Explorers compete against 300 others in California competition

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Explorer's Post #2105 recently competed against 25 other law enforcement agencies in the 2016 Central Valley Law Enforcement Explorer Competition in Hanford, Calif.
The two day event against Explorers from California featured both mentally and physically challenging events.
"This young team, most of whom is their second time competing, did an outstanding job overall and represented Douglas County very well," said Sgt. Bernadette Smith in a press release.

Forty soon-to-be eighth grade students from Pau-Wa-Lu and Carson Valley middle schools just wrapped up a two-week summer program with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO). The annual G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program has lessons from Deputies Teresa Duffy and Chris Wiggins which wrapped up with a four-day adventure event at Lake Tahoe.

DCSO Explorer Scouts volunteer at Pebble Beach golf tournament

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Explorers just finished a week-long detail in Pebble Beach, California working the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament to earn money for their POST.
Thirteen DCSO Explorers handled pedestrian control, traffic control and security details in and around the famous 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach. They saw golf professionals like Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh as well as amateurs like Justin Timberlake, Mark Wahlberg, Carson Daly and Larry The Cable Guy.
Amgen Tour for both men and women returns to South Lake Tahoe

Exciting news for South Lake Tahoe, the cycling community and local tourism today when it was announced that the Amgen Tour of California will be returning to the South Shore for both men's and women's events.
Professional cyclists will return to the lake for the men's Stage 5 finish and the women's Stage 1 start on Thursday, May 19, 2016. The men will take off in Lodi, Calif. and finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Base Lodge in South Lake Tahoe. The women will also start/finish at Heavenly Mountain Resort on May 19.

TahoeChamber’s prestigious awards program that recognizes exceptional South Shore businesses received over 175 nominations for eight separate award categories. The finalists and winners will be announced at the 7th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards dinner and ceremony on November 13 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.
