Inaugural 'GONE BONKERS' Kids Ski Race at Snowfest 2014

Talk about the March Madness: the inaugural “Gone Bonkers” Kids Ski and Snowboard Race, March 2, features a top-to-bottom race over Granlibakken Conference Center & Lodge ski area's natural terrain, complete with gates for kids 5 to 12.

It’s all part of North Lake Tahoe's 2014 SnowFest, a 10-day winter madness festival, Feb. 28- March 9.

Race registration is $5 for Granlibakken guests and $25 for non-guests. Competition will be divided by age groups: 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 with one race per participant, March 2 from 1-4 p.m. The prizes include gift certificates for pizza, ice cream, art shops and items provided by local ski shops.

Besides the competition, there is family activities including the resort’s Treetop Adventure Park voted No. 1 as a Lake Tahoe activity by TripAdvisor.com. The obstacle course playground is set in the trees, 30 feet off the ground. Fully harnessed guests can zip, climb, walk, and maneuver their way through a number of obstacles, each with varying degrees of skills and challenges.

This year's SnowFest theme is "Bringing Back the '80s." An annual North Lake Tahoe event since 1982, the action-packed festival includes on and off mountain activities throughout Tahoe's north and west shores.

Featuring special events, parades, races, parties, concerts, theater performances, food competitions, waiter and bartender racing, microbrew and fine wine tastings and ample dining opportunities, SnowFest brings on the fun.
