South Tahoe and Whittell High boys basketball teams headed to state tournament

It was a nail biter Friday night in the North Valleys High gym in the South Tahoe High-Lowry High basketball game. The score went back and forth during the game, with South Tahoe having a one-point lead with just under a minute left to play. Senior Denzel Perez was fouled 4 seconds left, and nailed both free throws, taking the Vikings up by three.

STHS ended up with the win.

They are joined by Whittell High School's boys basketball team who also won their playoff game Friday. They both are moving onto the state basketball tournament, but first they will finish off their division playoffs in Reno on Saturday, February 19.

South Tahoe beat Lowry Friday by a score of 44-41 in the North Valleys High gym, earning them both a trip to the Division 1-A finals and the Nevada State Tournament. The Vikings head back to North Valleys high to play Elko Saturday, February 19 at 2 p.m. The winner of that game earns the #1 seed from the north, the loser the #2 seed.

The Division 1-A State Championship will be played at Reno High and Lawler Events Center on February 26/27. South Tahoe's opponents and game times will be announced this weekend.

Over at Whittell High School, they are cheering for their boys basketball team as they are headed to the Division IV finals and the Nevada State Tournament. The took care of Pyramid Lake Friday night, winning the game 60-49.

They will be playing at Wooster High in Reno at 1:00 p.m. Saturday against Mineral County to determine the winner of the division and the seeds they'll be taking to the state tournament in Reno February 26/27. Whittell's opponents and game times will be announced this weekend.
