South Tahoe and Whittell High boys basketball teams head to playoffs Thursday

The boys varsity basketball teams from both high schools on the South Shore are playing in the Northern Nevada playoffs starting Thursday.

South Tahoe High boys, who are the number three seed in Northern Nevada NIAA Division 1-A, are headed to North Valleys High in Reno Thursday afternoon for their quarterfinal game against Spring Creek at 4:40 p.m. The STHS Vikings are split on the season against the Spartans with one loss, and one win.

The winner of the South Tahoe-Spring Creek game will play against Lowry on Friday at 4:40 p.m. Elko will play the winner of the Fernley-Churchill County game at 8:00 p.m. The winners of each of those game play for the championship on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The top two teams from the tournament head to the state championships in Reno on February 26-27. Those games will be played at Reno High and Lawler Events Center.

North Valleys High is located at 1470 E. Golden Valley Rd. in Reno.

Whittell High is taking their league leading 14-0 record to the NIAA Division IV Northern Region championships at Wooster High in Reno. Their road to the state title begins on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. when they play against Jackpot.

The winner of that game plays against the winner of the Wells-Pyramid Lake game on Friday at 8:00 p.m. That game will also be played at Wooster.

Saturday will be the final game in the tournament which will be held at Wooster at 1:00 p.m. The top two teams from this round head to the state tournament in Reno on Friday, February 26 (semifinals) and Saturday, February 27 (championships). Games will be played in the final round at Reno High and Lawler Events Center.
