If you think you're seeing more 18-wheeler trucks in South Lake Tahoe, you would be correct.
Since I80 has been closed this afternoon due to poor traction and whiteout conditions, many trucks are heading to US50 over Echo Summit in order to take their loads west.
Current road conditions:
SR88 from Red Lake to Martin Meadown, including the Carson Pass, is closed.
SR89 South from Meyers over Luther Pass - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels. (Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas)
SR89 North at Emerald Bay - closed.
US50 West - Fred's Place to Meyers - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels. (Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas)
US50 East - Zephyr Cove over Spooner Summit, Chains or snow tires required.
SR207 Kingsbury - US50 to Foothill - Chains or snow tires required.
SR431 Mt Rose - closed due to avalanche.
I80 - closed from state line to CA20.
