South Lake Tahoe man arrested in DUI hit and run after allegedly plowing into parked vehicles while texting

South Lake Tahoe Police Department officers arrested a man on DUI hit and run charges Thursday night after allegedly crashing his car into two parked vehicles in a driveway off of Fountain Drive. It is believed the man was text messaging at the time of the crash.
Christopher Catterson, 27, of South Lake Tahoe was arrested after running from the scene of the accident, said South Lake Tahoe Police Sgt. Shannon Laney.

DUI Hit and Run

On February 21st at about 8:20 PM, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department received numerous 911 call’s reporting that a car had just crashed into the front of a house. CHP had an officer in the area and detained Christopher Catterson, a 27-year-old from South Lake Tahoe, who was running from the scene. When Officers arrived on the chaotic scene, they found that a 2001 Volvo Station wagon had crashed into two parked cars in the driveway of 2592 Fountain Drive.

Witnesses observed Catterson in the driver’s seat of the Volvo, although Catterson denied being the driver. Catterson, whose driver’s license was suspended for a prior DUI conviction, was ultimately arrested for driving under the influence and hit and run. It appeared from Catterson’s cell phone that he was in the process of sending a text message at the time of the collision. Catterson only received minor injuries from the collision. No one else was injured.
