The following is a press release from Sgt. Shannon Laney of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department:

Vehicle versus Denny’s Crash
On March 7th at approximately 8:50 AM, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to a vehicle crash into the Denny’s restaurant located at 2870 Lake Tahoe Blvd. When Officers arrived on scene, they found the driver, Todd Jackson, 28-year-old from South Lake Tahoe, behind the wheel of his 2002 Dodge Durango.

Jackson had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department. Jackson suffered moderate injuries and was ultimately transported to Renown Hospital in Reno for trauma care. Jackson’s two sons, 11-year-old and 8-year-old boys, were transported to Barton Hospital and treated for minor injuries and released.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Preliminary reports indicate that Jackson possibly suffered a medical emergency while driving his two kids to Tahoe Valley Elementary, causing him to drive across the west bound traffic lanes, off the roadway between the entrance to South Tahoe Middle School and Al Tahoe Blvd. Jackson’s vehicle then proceeded back onto Al Tahoe Blvd and crashed into the north east corner of Denny’s.
